Ben plus what for Stafford?

Post#1 » by TSE » Wed Apr 21, 2010 3:11 pm

So what do you guys think PIT would give us for allowing them to swap Ben for Matt?

We then get a guaranteed player, in place or a risky player, score one for escaping the game of playing ability risk. We could probably restructure Ben's contract for less money than he would have made prior to the incidents that led to his suspension and make a financial score by getting out of Stafford's contract at the same time.

We can make out like bandits, all made possible because there is a cloud of embarrassment over PIT that doesn't exist the same way over here, thus we can capture all of that margin.

I don't want any part of Roethlisberger. This is his second sexual offense in less than a year. And he still doesn't think he's done anything wrong. It's only a matter of time until theres a third offense.

I would keep an eye on the situation though... if the Steelers keep bailing their players out of criminal matters, they might eventually decide to rebuild. Some players could be made available. But Ben is not one of the ones I would want on the Lions.

Hey nobody is perfect, but it's the opportunity we need to do the right thing for the fans and get them wins. A Stafford for Ben deal is perfect for both teams, get it done guys! I know Mayhew doesn't want to do it, but he has to at least think about it for 1 second in his mind, and I'm hoping he realizes that there is a path here to something special, and he needs to be on the phone with PIT right now.

Just saw Adam Schefter reporting on Twitter that PIT has contacted teams about a trade and they are aiming for a top 10 pick as compensation. Ben is a goner and I'm expecting him to land here.

Yes lets trade our star and the cornerstone of the franchise for a QB about to be suspended because of repeated conduct issues. sweet.

No, let's SWAP our star player for an even value, and let's TAKE a free value by getting a player that is worth more than what it takes to give him up.

SOME team in the NFL will trade for Ben before the draft is over. And that team is going to get a good deal. It's only in our best interests to take the deal, take the profit, and Stafford's value, pound for pound whatever it is worth, is perfectly translated and covered for and then some. That's good management.

Well don't matter if Mayhew wants to approach the idea or not, cause I'm willing to bet that PIT will call Mayhew and tell them they want Ben for Matt, so he's going to process the decision anyhow, so I'm glad that you are 100% sure that you know what Mayhew will do and that there is no possible way that PIT can make a deal for him. That's cool man. I'm glad we have such an untouchable player. Now talk about fantasies.

I am 100% sure we will not deal Stafford for Ben and/or whomever else it would take. After you invest so much guaranteed money and build your team around a player and give the fans someones jersey to buy and a guy to go buy tix to see...you don't trade him. Never ever going to happen in this scenario. I would say Stafford is about as untouchable for the next few years as any player in the league. A move like this would kill the fans and disrupt team chemistry significantly.

This isnt Madden 2010, you just dont do this sort of thing.

Well it works in Madden because Ben has a much higher player rating than Stafford, probably due to the fact that he is a superior player than him. So if we had Ben last year, would we be worse, would we have won zero games then? So Ben and Calvin Johnson can't figure out how to get us some wins? I call BS, I say we have a dangerous offense and an instant playoff contender if we swap Matt out for Ben. I am content with biding my time to gain the fans approval when they realize the change in the climate switches from loser-ball to playoff contention. Oh and I'll install a program that fans can send in their Stafford jerseys for 25% off on any new Lion's jersey. ;)

Why did I not see this coming.

Ben has major issues and even though hes the better QB right now, that doesn't make him a better fit.

He does no good when he's suspended, and I don't trust him to get his act together even after this. Same reason why I think the Jets are crazy for dealing for Santonio Holmes. Not worth the risk, and it has nothing to do with Stafford. I wouldn't give up a 3rd rounder for him.

Well that's what I'm saying, is Ben's value is so low, that if we give them Stafford, they might have to pay us serious juice. So Icness, if you were FORCED to swap Stafford for Ben, just name what your price would be to make it an even trade, and that's the trade to analyze. And whatever price you think is fair, i'm saying let's take that trade. Sure Ben has some risk to screw up in the future, but he's a fairly proven player and the odds that he can play well are much higher than him having another personal issue problem to the point that it hurts us anywhere near the amount that his good play helps us.
