Well that's good news that he is open to staying with us. I think it would be good to lock him up for a few years, but how much do we pay? He is coming off a season where he played through injury a lot, so we might be able to get him a bit cheaper if we do it sooner rather than later.
With BG returning and a different looking team, if we can crack 36 wins and EG averages closer to 20 ppg, his value will rise high enough to demand some fairly significant dollars, especially with possible hard cap and lock out looming.

Re: WT: Gordon open to extension
Clippers guard Eric Gordon is open to the possibility of a contract extension sometime within the next year or so.
"That might be a year down the road," Gordon said when asked about a possible long-term pact. "I would like to be with the Clippers and see what's going to happen, possibly get an extension after next year. You just never now."
The Clippers have struggled for quite a while, but Gordon sees promise in their current core, especially with Blake Griffin, who missed his entire rookie season.
"We tried to develop some chemistry in the summer league, but he's basically been hurt since then," Gordon said. "We're still close. We know we'll probably be together for a while. We're going to spend some time working out together.
"I think in a couple months, he'll be 100 percent, if he's not now."

This is a good sign that he wants to sign a contract extension, hopefully the off season will go our way and we can sign some good players.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Re: WT: Gordon open to extension
36 wins would be a little disappointing. Blake Griffin alone would bring another dimension and threat that was much needed this season.
Hawks are talking about throwing a max deal at Joe Johnson, Wade says their is a slim chance he would sign else where and I think Lebron is staying Cleveland. Clippers can improve through the draft and maybe some sign and trades.
Eric Gordon , depending on how he plays next season, is worth signing one of those 3 yr extensions.
I'm not sure how it would work out but I'm thinking up to 10 million?

We do have some time before a decision has to be made. It would likely be for 5 years (depending on the new CBA I would assume). He'd be able to play for 2 more seasons under the rookie scale contract before an extension would kick in. So if Sterling extends/re-signs him, EJ is here for 6-7 more seasons before he's an UFA.

I think the Clips could pick up some valuable pieces in FA. Maybe not a superstar but there's some value to be had. If I were them I would try and trade Kaman for a decent SF (Prince or Green) and then spend the cap space on a few goods players to round out the roster (to insure ourselves against injury issues). I think our team could look pretty good next season. I've posted a mock depth chart below (assumes a trade of Kaman for Green,Maynor, and Krstic)
PG: Davis/Watson/Maynor
SG: Gordon/ Q Rich/ Q Ross
SF: Green/ Mike Miller/ Draft Pick
PF: Griffin/ Haslem/ Etan Thomas
C: Krstic/Jordan/ Kwame Brown
I think that team could shape into something. It doesn't have high star power but it's got some savvy vets on it, lockdown defenders, great 3 pt shooters, and a good amount of youth. The team could be the OKC of 2011 depending on Griffin's development.

When the time comes we should offer an extension to EJ. He has been a solid player, and he is also one of the crucial pieces of a young team we can build on. Hopefully Donald Sterling and co don't let this kid get away.

I feel the same way, we just need to change the overall team culture and I think EJ and Griffin can do that. The media constantly takes shots at us, we need to make this a place that players and front office personnel would like to come to.

Ideally, I would like to follow the Blazers/Thunder model. Young players that have their head on straight. We could definitely have some goofballs ala Dwight Howard and I think Deandre brings that. I think right now Kaman is a negative on our team. He's unpredictable and prone to saying stupid things. Of course we should have kept Camby but looking at what he got paid there was no way we were going to do that. We should target high character guys like Haslem, Jeff Green, etc.
Players to avoid like the plague
G: Nate Robinson, Iverson, Watson, Alston, J Williams, Joe Johnson (ball hog), Tinsley, Arroyo,
F:Michael Beasley (no way should we try and trade for him), Tim Thomas (self-evident), Wilcox, Gooden, Rudy Gay (gunner), McGrady, Al Harrington, Sean May, Boozer
C: Brendan Haywood (seems like this guy is just going for the paycheck),
High Character Guys
G: Ray Allen, Eric Maynor, Steve Blake, Keith Bogans, Livingston
F: Udonis Haslem, Joe Smith (probably too old), Juwan Howard (ditto), Craig Smith, Kurt Thomas, Bobby Simmons (does he have anything left?), Etan Thomas (He's a poet, that's gotta be good), Matt Bonner, Mike Miller, Singleton
C: Brad Miller (probably too expensive, but he goes hard), Louis Admunson (goes hard as well),

I totally agree with your thinking. We need to target high-character guys that want to win more than anything, and that will put the team first.

I'm a Blazers fan and was wondering what it would cost Portland to get Gordon from
the Clips for I think he'd be a better fit alongside of Brandon Roy then the guys we
have now.
