Shaq?

Post#1 » by niffoc4 » Sun May 16, 2010 1:54 am

Would he even think about coming here and playing off of the bench?

We could get him for the same reason the Cavs wanted him (to take Howard 1 on 1). He would also provide a consistent post presence with solid passing skills...

We won't be able to contend with the money some teams will offer him. The incentive for lottery teams (New York, New Jersey) with cap space to pursue him is to fill seats. I also believe Shaq will look to sign for the most money because of his situations with his ex wife (Child support & Alimony) and not just settle to win a championship.

After Lebron James and Dwayne Wade are gone, Shaq is probably the next free agent that can boost attendance. Not on the same scale as Lebron, but there would be a boost.

i don't think Shaq would mind playing in ATL for the minimum, but i do think he would mind not starting.

i have no problem in signing Shaq or Brad Miller for the minimum.

I don't think Shaq would accept the minimum to play here. He might accept the MLE, but I don't see his pride going down to league minimum.

Of the 2, I'd rather have Brad Miller. To be honest I'm scared of what level of effort and shape you would get out a discount Shaq considering how he did finishing out 20+M per season. Miller wouldn't be able to bang Howard as well, but he can still stretch the floor.

And on defense, he seems to know how important is it to box out ;)
(I think he's more focussed on that than getting the rebound himself)

Good point. He's very good in a team rebounding concept where you block out the key offensive rebounders and the actual defensive rebound might go to the SF or a G position. Kind of like the Celtics system where Rondo gets a lot of rebounds by crashing the boards while the bigs are blocking out the other team's bigs.

I don't see Shaq coming here unless we get a coach here who would accept him as a part time player.
I only see him going to a contender that has a shot at the title. Shaq will have a hard time accepting a huge paycut.
He is a fit for Orlando, who shoots a lot of 3 pointers and is successful.

Personally, I think he could contain Howard if needed. But we can't expect any drives to the basket. Lots of outside shooting and no lane clogging.

Shaq is a useless, washed up bum at this point in his career. Why in the world would you sign this guy. He couldn't guard Howard anyways.
