Delonte West could be traded before the start of free agency

The Cavs also may be active in the trade market, which will begin in earnest next month. The Cavs do have a couple of tradeable assets, none more so than the contract of Delonte West. Worth $4.6 million, West is only guaranteed $500,000 if he's released by August. The potential savings for other teams could be the base of a trade that could upgrade the roster ahead of the start of free agency.

There are plenty of 2 guard options available this off-season, but are any of you open to us acquiring Delonte West?

Yes - I am a big fan of Delonte. He's a bit undersized for a SG, but he plays hard and feisty, and dude can play.

Bonus points if he did indeed pork LeBron's mom as well.

Actually, what would we trade for him though?

I just don't see this Hawks team as having the leadership in place to handle someone with Delonte's baggage and keep him on the straight and narrow for his own good.

I wouldn't mind the cap freeing nature of his contract, but I don't see any match between their roster and ours. The pieces we'd want to jettison (Bibby?) aren't helpful to them and the pieces they'd tie to him in a potential S&T deal aren't that attractive to us (because of their contracts).

No way! Delonte has a big Herpe nug on his lip. He would be useless on our team. We don't need him.

Easy >>> Trade Marvin for West/Parker and cut West.

Wow. I LOVE that idea if you're bringing Joe back.

Why would we do that trade? That's pretty much a pure salary dump.

Because Marvin's role (if JJ stays as the 1st option) on offense is easily replaceable. Unless they are going to let him become more involved offensively, he's getting paid way more than he's worth to the team.

A pure salary dump is exactly what I was attempting. We essentially lose a big contract and 10ppg/5rpg for an expiring veteran SG/SF who can hit the 3 (averages over 40% from 3 over the last 4 years) and save $4M up front to make room for Childress. I absolutely love this deal. If only Cleveland did, too. Marvin isn't part of the future core, IMO. This move doesn't hurt us now or in the future. I look at it as trading Marvin/roughly $2 million for Parker/Childress.

No doubt we do it, would Cleveland? They definitely wouldn't if Lebron goes, but if Lebron stays can they get a better offer? Probably.

I absolutely think Marvin is part of the future core, and I think Joe has no part of that future. If we're salary dumping Marvin, we may as well dump Joe.

Dump Joe and Marvin, realign the frontline with either Horford or Josh at the 4.

Get Teague his minutes and move Bibby in a money saving deal.

Put Crawford in Joe's slot and let's see what we can get for Joe. If the ASG agree to pay him more than their latest offer (4/60M), I don't see alot of potential for us to get past Round 2.

"Play harder or we give your mom's cell # to Delonte!"

THAT'S motivation.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Pass for me.

I like the potential Marvin has if he can gain any attention from our next Coach. If our next Coach decides to not have Marvin as a focal point on our team we need to consider trading him. However, It depends on the return for Marvin, but what we gain from your Cleveland idea is a dime a dozen.

We can just go out during free agency or the draft and pursue players with range. Anthony Parker has a role with Cleveland, but if he was playing for a Coach like Woodson he probably would be running wild.

I'm in an awkward spot with Marvin. I want to see him under a new coach, but if Joe is being resigned at all costs then I don't feel that Marvin will be given an opportunity to earn his salary as the 4th or 5th option on offense. The only way he may be able to earn his money with a resigned Joe would be to become the 7th man while we acquire a lock time defender to start at the 3 like a Matt Barnes. Such a move would probably be part of a serious attempt to field a roster that is truly 10 deep like Orlando or Phoenix so we'd have a cohesive 2nd unit. My thought is as the 7th man, Marvin could be the 2nd option offensively when on the floor.

If Joe isn't resigned, then we sign a defensive stopper to play SG and give Marvin a more prominent offensive role in a new system. I don't see him ever being a go-to guy in an iso system, but in a pick and roll or dribble penetrate system then Marvin could become a key perimeter option.

If Jamal starts to replace Joe, then I say sign a defensive stopper and given Marvin the 6th man role. Although this wouldn't be an optimal plan as Jamal is better suited for that 6th man role because his ability to create his own shot off the dribble.

I'd prefer we not resign Joe; it just gives us so much more flexibility. As for defensive stoppers, the only ones I see who are FAs are Ronnie Brewer or Wesley Matthews.
