Tillery: Grizz may select Bledsoe at 12?

Post#1 » by I Am Awesome-O » Sun May 30, 2010 9:47 pm

It appears that Kentucky point guard Eric Bledsoe is drawing attention from more than the NCAA. As the NCAA looks in to alleged grade fraud and illegal gifts connected to Bledsoe, the Grizzlies are said to be eyeing his services.

There is a groundswell within the organization to select Bledsoe if the Griz hold on to the 12th overall pick.

Adding to the intrigue is that Bledsoe measured in at about 6-0 without shoes and 6-11/2 with shoes at the NBA's draft combine in Chicago. Bledsoe would do little to provide size to an already diminutive Grizzlies backcourt. However, Bledsoe does have a 6-71/2 wingspan, which goes a long ways toward making up for his l height.

Yikes. Isn't there a good chance that he'll still be on the board at 25?

Why the hell would you take Kyle Lowry 2.0 with a lottery pick?

SMOKESCREEN!

The Front Office couldn't possibly bungle the draft two years in a row?

I wish we had Kyle Lowry back.

Bledsoe could only be so lucky to turn out like Lowry has.

This is a point-guard low draft and Memphis may have to select Bledsoe that high. Mostly, the Grizzlies just need to concentrate on adding depth at every position. Those three first rounders could work wonders for that.

They could easily accomplish that through the draft on the cheap but would once again be very young as a team. If they don't re-sign Rudy Gay because of a huge offer from another team they could sign free agents Mike Miller, Ronnie Brewer, draft Paul George at #12, Mikail Torrance at #25, and Kevin Seraphin at #28.

Conley/Torrance/another cheap veteran
Mayo/Brewer
Miller/George/Young/Carroll
Randolph/Arthur/Seraphin
Gasol/Thabeet/Haddadi

So depth shouldn't be a problem if that's what it's about. Personally I think trading a couple of the picks to get a veteran like Lou Williams and trying to get free agents like Brewer, Mike Miller, and/or Tony Allen would be the better route if they let Rudy Gay go.

Conley/ Williams(Lou, not Marcus)
Mayo/Allen/Young
Miller/Brewer/Carroll
Randolph/Arthur/draft pick
Gasol/Thabeet/Haddadi

What they lose with Gay they could make up with a veteran bench contributing. Of course if they give Gay the big dollars they won't sign pricier veteran free agents but will have to go with cheap rookie contracts to save the money. That's the dilema and they will have to choose which path to go down.

Okay, I'll give you the point that a veteran could be classified as an "old" player. But I mean a player that's been around the league more than three or four years. So if it agrees better with you I'll rephrase it with the word "experienced" player.
