Revis Begins Holdout

Post#1 » by knickabocker88 » Thu Jun 10, 2010 7:36 pm

Tanny did this b.s with leon, He's lucky Leon broke his leg & RB are not that hard to replace, but he wont be able to do this with Revis, He held out for his rookie deal & by his account he's not playing around. Your best player cant make 1million in an uncapped year.

This is going to be a big story.

Supposedly, a number of Jets are upset with Tannenbaum because (they claim) he broke his word to renegotiate their contracts. Whether or not this is true, I don't know.

This is what happens when we hand out dumb contracts to FA and disrespect home grown players. You can't give (Please Use More Appropriate Word) money to calvin pace and then expect the best defensive player in football to be happy with his contract. Revis deserves to make QB money. No other player in football completely shuts off half of the field like Revis. He's going to make Cromartie who is an average player, look like an all-pro.

The buy back is a team option, not a players option. the Jets can buy back the last 3 years of his deal for 14 million which is apparently what they want to do.
This is actually what is wrong with sports. Revis was paid 14 million for his last 3 years and has 3 years left on his deal and he is threatening to hold out? IMO the Jets have this whole offseason and next season to get a deal done before you even have to think of threats.
BTW, Al Davis just opened himself up to a tampering lawsuit if this is true he said that. Owners NFL teams are not allowed to comment on players of other teams that are under contract.

Except Revis has every right to hold out, because the Jets can cut him at any time and the only thing Revis will get is the guaranteed money and his signing bonus. Every NFL player goes into every season with a good chance that they will suffer a debilitating injury. They should hold out for all the money they can get, and the longer the Jets wait to make a deal, the more money it will cost them if Revis stays healthy. He deserves as much money as Manning is going to get in his new deal.

By your logic every NFL player should hold out every year for more money because the ability to get cut is on every player in the NFL. Also, Revis knows the Jets are not going to cut him. If that is his motivation for doing this then he has to be a pretty stupid guy.
As far as the injury thing, yeah it is an issue but he plays a position where you are more likely not to get badly injured if you play smart and Revis is a smart player. There is also the saying that if you are afraid you are going to get hurt then find another line of work.

that is another thing that adds to it...public perception and maybe even how players view our organization is we tell players one thing and do another and dont live up to what we "promise" after getting rex ryan I felt this whole organization changed for the better i feel like we have the talent now moving forward I feel Mike Tannnenbaum made some un real moves to make this team what it is moving forward..SO NOW WE NEED TO CHANGE in a way of signing our own players and making them happy...its the one thing imo thats holding us back right now

Revis blows out his knee in game 1 and the Jets only have to keep him on their roster for this season. Once next off-season comes around they can cut him. Revis should get all the money he can get, just like Boldin did the right thing forcing his way out of Arizona when they refused to negotiate.

"Right now I'm just being patient," Revis said. "I'm not mad about anything. I'm here. I want to be here. They know I want to be here. Minicamp is coming up next week," he said of the full-squad camp from Monday through Wednesday, with Wednesday's practice taking place at New Jets Stadium. "I'll be at minicamp. No comment on training camp. I don't know. We'll see when that day comes."

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum and his team and Revis and his agents are trying to come to agreement on an extension. Revis said it matters to him that he be compensated for his status among the league's best defenders.

I expect this to get resolved soon.
