Whom the Indiana Pacers draft or potentially acquire in a trade in the coming week will be a significant factor in whether they keep forward Troy Murphy.
The Pacers want to trade some of their contracts that expire after next season. Murphy, who averaged a double-double in points and rebounds for the second consecutive season, is the most attractive option. The catch is the Pacers don’t want to receive a contract that will hamper their rebuilding process.
That could be the case if they want to acquire New Orleans point guard Darren Collison. The Hornets also are looking to unload some of their high-priced contracts.
Trading Murphy without getting a power forward in return could put the Pacers in a tough spot. Tyler Hansbrough played only 29 games last season because of an inner ear infection/concussion. Veteran Jeff Foster appeared in 16 games and is recovering from back surgery.
The Pacers could trade Murphy and draft a power forward with the No. 10 pick June 24. There is a good chance, though, that the Pacers will trade their pick to address their point guard concerns.
The Pacers have had conversations with more than 20 teams about possible trades.

Love all these rumors coming out of Indy. I think Murphy will be dealt at some point this summer, and I'm hoping we get a player that can come in right away an contribute...like a Darren Collison. I would be more than willing to trade Murphy, and then draft a young big man, or mayb acquire another decent player and another pick for him? Who do you see the Pacers getting for Murphy?
