Re: McGowan Shoulder Surgery
TORONTO BLUE JAYS pitcher DUSTIN McGOWAN today had his right shoulder examined by Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama.
Following that examination, and in consultation with Blue Jays Consulting Orthopedic Surgeon in Florida, Dr. Steven Mirabello, it was determined that Dr. Andrews will perform arthroscopic surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, June 22nd. Dr. Andrews will perform surgery to increase the range of motion in his right shoulder as well as evaluating the health of the rest of the shoulder.
No timetable has been set for Dustin McGowan to resume a throwing program.

" Best case scenario Gordan Hayward becomes like Adam Morrison."

Re: McGowan Shoulder Surgery
Well, this is actually good news from what I gather.
He didn't retear his labrum and it's not another Tommy John Surgery. This surgery sounds more exploratory than anything, to which I say I hope they find nothing and in 4-8 weeks, at least Dusty can start throwing again and hopefully be back for Spring next season, because I doubt he'll be back this year.

GM said McGowan is out at least until 2011, and later added it could be as long as 2012. As long as there's hope, Jays willing to wait.

Anthopoulos: Dr. Andrews found "significant tear" in McGowan's rotator cuff. Surgery repaired damage. No throwing for 4-6 months.

Re: McGowan Shoulder Surgery
Generally speaking, after the second big surgery, probably all of us expected that this comeback wasn't going anywhere. The entire time, we've been hearing nothing but "Oh, he can throw on flat ground... and he's got a dead arm. He can throw again... and now he's having surgery." And so on.
McGowan's done, and even if he isn't, when he comes back, he's likely to have seriously reduced value. He'll be at least 29, he'll have a significant pitch count and innings limit like he was 21 year-old, and he's now missed out on 2.5 years worth of development as a pitcher.
We had him pegged as a power pitcher and as a starter and I don't think either of those are realistic expectations if he does come back at all.

I liked watching him in 2007 and for parts of 2008, but yeah, this looks like the end.

yeah, Im eating crow now..lol
Looks like this injury may prevent him from ever being a starter ever again. Could possibly come back though as a Jonathan Papelbon like closer though. After the frustrations Iwe've been having with Gregg, I think a 50% McGowan is better than a 110 % Gregg.

Re: McGowan Shoulder Surgery
Probably not a closer, as it's too much wear and tear. He might be able to make it back as a middle reliever, but it's going to be a long road.
Small consolation as a fan, but at least he'll receive a pension in addition to his accumulated salary.

Damn shame, the kid really could have been something, we'll just have to hold out hope he can make some sort of comeback, hopefully another Carpenter kind of deal
