Possible Point Guards?

Post#1 » by sactown15 » Mon Jun 28, 2010 4:18 am

I was looking at the free agency listings for this summer and thought about some possible point guards for the Kings. Wanna know what you guys think about:

Roger Mason (not point but can shoot the 3s)

Jason Williams (bring him back as a backup, could help with leadership)

Luke Ridnour (can hit some threes and run the point)

Rafer Alston (fast pace game/shoots 3's/compliments Reke)

Larry Hughes (shoots 3's/veteran guard that could come off bench)

Raymond Felton (plays D, could be good with our future lineup)

Raymond Felton is a significant signing, MLE or something in that level of pay, I don't think the Kings will go in that direction, the rest are one year vet min guys, maybe, but I don't see it.

I agree with you, I really didn't like any listed above.. I wonder if we could get Rudy Gay, and if he could play the 2?? the would be awesome but if he couldn't.. then their goes that plan.

Randy Foye and Steve Blake are two guys i'd look at. Nate Robinson wouldn't be a bad pick up either. We will see what happens

I'll add Duhon and Tony Allen as two players i would be interested in as defenders off the bench

Does anybody else think that whoever plays next to Reke should be able to legitimately guard most SG's? I agree with the ideology that Evans can't be asked to guard the best wing player every game.

I rather take a flyer on Jerome Randle or Sherron Collins on the cheap.

The player from that list that interests me is Raymond Felton, none of the others seem like a good fit for us.

I like Ridnour, but I would not pay him big money or allow him to start..

It's not a great year for FA PG's. You have Felton, who I don't really think is someone you pay a ton of money too unless they can move Beno, and the rest.

Either Felton or Alston could be an interesting fit with the kings - I am not sure we'll go this route though. Will be interesting to see if we make any moves in this free agency and if we do what they will be. I think there are so many big names out there in the free agency that we could get a steal of a deal - who knows...

I would not mind getting Bobby Brown back as an end of the bench insurance PG.

I liked him when we had him

I'm not particularly impressed by anyone on the list, but out of the ones on the list, I guess Felton is the one I'd target

It isn't often you can fill every team need with just one draft or one offseason. We just took a huge step by adding talent in the frontcourt, which will allow the team to take a step forward, but we still have a long way to go. Because of that, I don't see any need to start thinking about overpaying guys that won't fit perfectly into this team moving forward. That is even more true when you consider that the next CBA has a good chance of setting the bar a bit lower for contracts.

We can get through this season with a UDFA or a one year stopgap veteran getting some limited minutes. We have another likely lotto pick coming up that can help fill the need for a shooter. We will have even more cap room next offseason. Depending on how fast our bigs progress, we have assets like Dalembert and Landry to dangle leading up to the trade deadline. I think Petrie would be wise to stay patient.

Raymond Felton would fit in nice...and I think Randy Foye is a free agent as well. But I would take Steve Blake.
I just want to say I am a fan of some of the moves your team has made and I am a semi distant fan every since your team was ripped off in game 7 versus the Lakers when Horry hit that shot...

That Kings team should have won the NBA title and Donaghy even said it in his report. But I really hope you have a player personel guy worth a darn because this team will need to be monitored.

Very very raw and immature with Cousins and Whiteside...Too many of the same kind of players at the same stage of development and the same age to be very cohesive when they run into adversity.

On the road you are going to have to watch these young men and make sure they get their rest and come to practice focused. Both DeMarcus and Hassan will struggle at first but stick with them...

The obvious guy that was left off the list is Steve Blake.

Honestly, adside from maybe Arroyo (defense and A/TO ratio that is one of the best in the league) there is nobody the fits our team build better at this point. I would even go so far as to say that he is worth mid-level money as long as it's no more than 3 years. He not only has the ability to competently run the team without making foolish mistakes, he is also a better than average defender AND a very good three-point shooter. It fills two needs in one shot and relagates Beno to the third guard role as a spot scorer that really fits him best (if he would just accept it).
