Yi Jianlian to Washington

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Jun 29, 2010 5:05 pm

Nets to trade Yi Jianlian to Wizards

The Nets have gotten another step closer toward their ultimate goal of hitting the $33-million mark in bankroll by dumping Yi Jianlian on the Washington Wizards, in a move that will be announced in a few hours.

In return, the Wiz are sending the Nets Quinton Ross’s $1.146 contract, which enables the Nets to increase their cap space to precisely $30 million – a nice round number that will get you LeBron James ($16.5M) and a stud who can start out at $13.5M.

So much for the foray into the Asian continent, unless they believe a billion Chinese fans are going to follow the owner. But it's a good move all around, and best for the kid himself.

Solid trade for Washington.

Washington has definitely gone counter to everyone else with respect to cap room utilization.

I'll bet if we had guaranteed Rio or Randolph for $.8 mil next year, they would have taken him for Yi and we could have had a very good backup SF for $3 mil

It honestly looks like they are going the "thunder plan" and build through the draft and fill in whatever else. Do you really think any major free agent will go there until the Agent Zero mess is over? They got a 1st for taking on Kirk Hinrich, who oddly is actually a good fit. Plus hes only on the books for 2 years. They should pick up Josh Howards option, just so they have a starting 3. Unless they believe Thortons their man. Although I would still pick up Howards option. Thats only one year. Yis' only on their books for one year. And they got him for Quinton Ross.

We don't have the cap room to do this...

Howard and Hinrich puts them pretty close to the cap... maybe even slightly over. I looked at this before they traded for Yi and picking up his option would press them tight against the cap... if not completely over it.

They aren't going after big names, thats my point. They are focusing on youth and then filling out their roster with short term contract/talents/fill-ins.

Howard off knee surgery and at 11 mil doesn't make much sense for them when they can have Chills for 5 mil
This is all part of their plan to choke off the Knicks and have them become desperate for any sort of star *ahem* Arenas.
