Some other team can offer him more than the Suns are willing to pay and probably more playing time so probably not.

Pretty much what was already said. Additionally, I'm real anxious to see what Earl Clark can do and simply feel bringing Lou back would only take minutes away from him. With Lou and Amar'e gone, it should only open up more playing time for Clark, which is one thing I'm definitely looking forward to next season.

It sucks that he probably won't be here, but between Hill, Dudley, Clark, Frye, Warrick, Lawal, the other 2nd rounder, Lopez we're got too many people taking up time in the front line. Along with the fact that Clark will probably be given a bigger role on the team, there's just no room for poor Lou.

I hope that if he doesn't say with the Suns, he gets a good opportunity to build on what he was able to achieve here.

Lawal does what Lou does at a much cheaper price. He's gone.

Okay, here's Lou's situation with the Suns.

He is an early Bird FA which means the Suns can sign him without an exception (the Bird rights are essentially a cap exception) and without using cap space.

Here are the contract stats:

Minimum Years - 2 years
Maximum Years - 5 years
Maximum Salary - 175% of previous salary or average salary (MLE)
Maximum Raises - 10.5% (non-compounding)

So the question becomes, at what number does Lou re-sign with us and at what number do we have to let him walk?

If we're going to have 5 bigs, I'd rather the 4th or 5th (depending) be Lou. We don't need a guy like Collins on this squad anymore, at all.

I mean, I see it playing out this way:

PF - Warrick / Amundson / Lawal
C - Lopez / Frye

with Lawal maybe beating Lou out by mid-season.

I have to be honest, Lou was giving guys like Kenyon Martin and Zach Randolph absolute fits. No way Lawal can have that impact immediatly. Also, Lou led or almost led the league in blocked shots per 36 iirc.

Another thing is since Amare is gone we need more overall scoring from our big men. Having Lou on the court most teams didnt even bother to guard him and just let him roam free double teaming whoever. Thats a reason why he had soo many putbacks cuz noone was there playing defense to box him out.

It cant be that way this season. We need a guy that can hit the occasional 15 ft jumper, and have the abilty to make contested layups. Lou just doesnt have the confidence to hit a jumper, and misses quite a few close up shots that werent dunks. Also need someone downlow that can take advantage of mismatches when the defense switches of smaller players on pick and rolls. Amare was not very good at getting position and sealing for easy layups, and hopefully Warrick is better at that. I know from the footage i've seen of Lawal that he is pretty good at getting position and finishing.

Lou is a great energy guy, someone to get the crowd involved with his energy and hustle. I would like to see him back, but there will be no room. I want to give our new rookies, Collins, Lawal a go and see what they can do.

I've also heard Lawal can play center. So..

Lopez/Frye/Lawal
Warrick/Lawal/Collins

It's hard to see how we can pay him 175% of his previous salary but it woud sure be nice -
he might take a bot less to stay here because he's happy but this is such a weird summer some team may make a ludicrous offer.

we let Griffin, Collins and Maybe DJones go - add The Long Arm of Lawal, the new Collins and re-sign Lou ... maybe someone who's better at working the ins and out sof the cap can lay it out for us?

I would really like to see DJones play summer league - was surprised he got no run at all in the postseason. This may be a case where I am infatuated with a player based on some attributes that don't really exist. This is a common syndrome among the NBA-addicted
