5 year Vs 6 year max contract question

Post#1 » by ManicBullsFan » Tue Jul 6, 2010 3:37 am

What is the dollar difference in the 6th year salary of a max contract if lebron signed a 6 year deal with cleveland verse a 5 year deal with one of chi/mia/nj/ny etc with a 3 year extension.

The 2015-2016 salary difference is what i'm looking for.

Cheers

PS- Assume the CBA stays the same as it is now. Thanks

Your "PS" is kind of far fetched. It won't.

Anyway, the value of a full 5 year non-Bird rights deal in FA this year, versus the full 6 year shadboodle with Bird rights:

http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago ... -year.html

A 3 year maximum extension to that fifth year deal would read:

2015/16 = $24,167,410
2016/17 = $26,463,860
2017/18 = $28,760,311

However, if your implication is that teams will promise a maximum extension as soon as it is possible to one of these FA's, so that the players get all their money and the Bulls aren't jimmied out of anything nice because of the need to satiate the other team in a sign-and-trade scenario, then you need to know that that's very illegal.

Cheers sham.

Had too assume the CBA stayed constant for this scenario, though it obviously won't.

And as for the guarantee extension, Lebron will get another max offer at the end of all this unless injury ends it all.

So the difference in the two contracts over 6th years is $5,242,401 plus the difference in the subsequent raises between the two contract extensions in the following years.
