I had mentioned that the player has to be the one to re-structure his contract, and that it rarely happens. It just happened with Turkoglu:
Turkoglu to agree to waive his 15% Trade Kicker and drop the final guaranteed year of the contract. In short Turk's contract is now worth three more years and $31 million… shaving $12 million off the final years and saving the Suns a sizable trade bonus in the process.

Just an FYI that it occurs every once in a while.

Re: Someone asked about restructuring contracts before the draft
It wasn't a restructuring at all.
In a deal, a player can agree to waive his trade kicker ONLY if the deal CANNOT be completed without waiving the trade kicker, as was the case in this situation.
The other, is a different matter. It appears that he simply had to agree to terminate the last year of his contract (he already had an early termination option) before Phoenix would trade for him.
Thus, in no way is it a restructuring. It's simply that he opted out of his contract REALLY ridiculously early in order to motivate the Suns to trade for him.
