Give me Your Finley Prediction
A writer from the NY Times stated in his blog earlier this summer that Finley seemed like an obvious choice for the best TE in football this year.
http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/18/jermichael-finley-will-be-the-best-and-he-knows-it/
This writer called up Finley and asked him what he though of the prediction and was greeted with an expected answer.
Question 1
What are your expectations for Finley this year?
Question 2
What do you think of Finley in this interview? Confident or cocky?

Re: Give me Your Finley Prediction
1. Something like 75-80 grabs for 1,300 and 10 TD. I have high expectations. The only fear I have is slight injury concerns.
2. I don't necessarily mind it, especially when asked. I would never say something like that, but I realize that is how athletes are. However, when you start getting into the LeBron "I know what I've done for this city and organization" you turn into a pretty big douche. Or if you go out talking about how your the best all over the place.

It depends on the O-Line. If they suck again he'll need to stay in and block or run short chip routes.

Re: Give me Your Finley Prediction
I'd say something around 65-70 catches, 1,000 yards, 8 TD's. I'd say more if we didn't have as balanced an offense as we do. Our offense is going to manhandle people this year. I have a lot more faith in the OL with Clifton healthy, Tauscher signed from day one, Bulaga added, and another year of development for Sitton, Lang, etc.

Re: Give me Your Finley Prediction
I expect a little bit less than LUKE23 does.
We have a ton of weapons offensively. Jennings, Driver, Jones, Nelson, the RBs and other TEs will all get theirs as well. That's why we are so good, because we can really spread the ball around.
Finley is (IMO) our most talented offensive weapon though. I do not expect a ton of yards (700-900 most likely), but I do expect a lot of TDs (10-12)... Because he is a phenomenal red zone target.

Re: Give me Your Finley Prediction
He missed 3 games, was under-utilized in the first 5 or 6 weeks aside from a huge play vs. the Vikings, and he put up 55, 675 yds, 5 TD. He also had a monster playoff game. Barring injury, you guys are undershooting.
I realize we have a ton of weapons, but he is weapon #1 IMO.
EDIT: I guess 1,300 may have been a bit high for my call, too.

Even during the lowest points for the offensive line last season, McCarthy was stubborn and didn't want to keep in extra blockers. It took him weeks of Rodgers running around for his life and getting battered for him to finally do it, and even then, it was sparingly. With the amount of talent this offensive line now has, I'd be shocked if they come close to being as bad as they were the first half of last season.
With that said, the word is out on Finley. Teams have seen what he can do now and he's going to be a huge part of the game planning for opposing defenses. I'd look for Jennings, Driver, and the rest of the receivers to get less attention and see more single coverage as a result. Finley staying healthy is the difference between a good offense and an offense that is nearly impossible to match up with.

IIRC McCarthy was the one who wanted to keep in extra blockers, but Rodgers came out and said he wanted more options to pass to instead of more blockers.

I don't remember reading that but you might be right. Either way, McCarthy is always talking about 'explosive plays' being a big part of winning games and I believe his play calling generally reflects that. In any event, if the offensive line gives Rodgers time, it doesn't matter what the play is. We're going to move the ball and score in bunches.

Re: Give me Your Finley Prediction
I'm expecting something to the tune of 850 yards and 10 TDs. With how much balance we have on offense, I think it will be hard for him to rack up yardage, but he's going to have his way in the red zone.

Awesome interview. I hope to see Darrell Revis trying to cover Finley this season but it probably wont happen.

Wow, 1300 yards?
I guess I'm a little more reserved. I'm not expecting him to eclipse 1,000. I think he can get close, though. I'll go with 900 yards and 10 scores.

I'd say I'm right around your prediction. You have to take into account that he missed a few games last year too. He might have been around 850 last year if he played every game.

Re: Give me Your Finley Prediction
I would predict something big if not for our balanced and ridiculously good offense.
