Team USA Basketball

Post#1 » by Kobblehead » Sat Jul 24, 2010 5:55 pm

I'm watching the practice on NBATV right now. Andre isn't getting alot of airtime. He seems to be in the scrub bracket of this team. What are the odds that he actually makes the team?

It sounds like he will make the team World's team as a "vet leader" and defensive stopper. He will be a starter in the scrimmage on ESPN tonight.

There are a few articles about Iguodala and Team USA here: http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/sixers

I've read a handful of columns that seem to believe he will be cut because he brings a lot of the same attributes to the team that Gerald Wallace does and Wallace is the better player right now. It would be nice to see Iguodala make the squad but even if he does, I'm not expecting to see him get that much run.

I would love to see him make it. Even if he gets a few minutes a game to shut down an opposing perimeter player, that would be a great experience for him.

I really want Iguodala to make the team. He will get great experience playing with good talent and playing against the best competition in the world. Hopefully he makes it and becomes even better than he already is.

EDIT: It looks like the chances of him making the team are slim. He's playing on the white team with guys like Kevin Durant, Gerald Wallace, Lamar Odom, and Danny Granger all playing similar positions (SF). The blue team however looks outmatched with only Rudy Gay and Jeff Green to play SF. They should have put Andre on that team IMO.

Billups think his performance in the camp has been good, and if they were to keep him, it sounds like him being a veteran and defensive ability would land him on the team. We will see how it turns out...

Say what you want about Iguodala's game, the one thing I don't think any of us have ever questioned is his work ethic. First of all, just look at the dude's physique... the man looks like he should be wrestling John Cena on Monday Nights (Cena still wrestles, right?). Secondly, after reading that article, the guy puts in some serious time in the gym. I've lost count of how many coaches he's now had here but I'm hoping that not only for his sake, but everyone else's, that Doug Collins can bring some stability to the organization.

Dee seems to think he is all but on the team b/c of his age and being one of the top defenders there. Also, Andre spoke about how important his versatility has been. The team has been apparently playing him 1-4. I really think KD and Iguodala would be a supreme combo on the wings.

I don't know if I should make a new thread But ESPN2 is going to air the Blue and White scrimmage at 10 and we got a dog in that fight.

I'm in for the rest of the night and will be watching it. Anyone else tuning in to this?

I'm probably going to be watching. I'm 1) feigning for basketball and 2) have heard great things about Andre in the offseason. Can't wait to see.

Seriously... we're still two months away just from training camp opening and THREE months away from seeing games that matter. I need my fix.

Here's a column from Chris Sheridan talking about who is on the bubble for making the cut down to 15. Iguodala is listed on the bubble only because if he has a bad game, someone might sneak into his spot.

So pretty much Iguodala is competing against Wallace.

Actually... Wallace is pretty much a lock. Iguodala seems to be competing against Granger and Green.

Im going to be paying close attention to Andre's defense. If he can shutdown multiple guys I would say his off-season has been a success. Hopefully his offense takes a step up as well.
