With AK coming off the books, you think the Jazz has a chance signing Marc Gasol?

He is restricted and I am not sure what kind of deal would get him from the Grizzlies.

I hope so. Unless we get someone better in the meantime. Center is still our biggest need.

No, don't have enough money. It would need to be a trade.

AK coming off has more to do with resigning Deron than anyone else. He comes off the lux tax roles, but the difference between the cap and the tax can't be made up externally.

Zach Randolph will be off the Grizzlies' books by then, so it's hard to see why Memphis wouldn't be able to match any offer made to Gasol if they wanted to do so.

They would match any offer the Jazz could, not any offer any team might.

Jazz would still be over the cap, so no, they won't be able to offer a contract to a FA.

hard to read the grizzlies. on one hand they give the max to a player like gay. on the other hand, they trade away a player like pau for kwame.

That was a one time thing with Pau; not to mention the FO personnel is different.

I agree they're tough to read (just look at the Xavier Henry mess), but that trade was really Pau for Marc and picks. I don't think they wanted Kwame Brown.

That trade wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. They got a young center to take his place that is fully capable of averaging 16 and 9 along with a couple of other prospects (and Kwame was a huge expiring). They knew they weren't going anywhere so they moved Gasol for positive assets.

well yeah, NOW it looks okay. but at the time, it looked like pau for kwame. just like at this time people are scratching their heads at the gay contract. maybe they'll keep scratching? (they gave us pick for cap relief. they didnt even bother to keep the player we sent them )

as for any deals with anybody involving memphis, i wouldn't NOT try. but i wouldn't be surprised if after everything reasonable has been done that it still doesn't happen. you just cant predict what memphis might or might not do.

And Gasol.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Yeah the Gay signing BAFFLES me. I'm not sold that he's going to be the most valuable player on his team for much longer with Mayo and Gasol being so young and yet so good already. Oh and there is Zach Randolph who was an All-Star last season. I would of rather saved up money to match the big offer that Gasol will receive next season. I would LOVE Gasol, he's a good defender and already has a good offensive game, and he's definitely going to be up there in the discussion of the 3 best centers for years to come. If we could pull some kind of trade to shed some capspace I would love it, though I think he's going to get PAID so I don't think we're going to be able to place that sort of offer for him.

I am totally on board with a Marc Gasol signing. He is exactly the kind of guy the Jazz need.
