Dennis Rodman: Scottie Pippen is superior to Lebron

So Dennis Rodman comes out and says...
“People talk about LeBron,” said Rodman. “You’ve got to understand, LeBron has no business even being in the same conversation with Scottie. Scottie was the epitome of the (do it all elite player). What do you want me to say? Scottie was great.”
http://blogs.bulls.com/2010/08/rodman-d ... to-lebron/I like Rodman, should've been in the HoF a long time ago... but he's wrong here.
Yes, LeBron's stats will decrease as a result of playing w/ 2 superstars. But will his talents (basketball iq, defense, driving ability, court vision, passing, rebounding, etc) go too? No. Only areas Pippen is clearly better than Lebron were defense and shooting.
I'd take Lebron in a heartbeat.

I think the difference is that while both have all of the tools, Scottie used them better... as in, for the benefit of the team.
For some reason, Scottie just seems like he meshed better overall than I think LeBron will ever be able to. Scottie was more complimentary in terms of his talent... LeBron is kind of a "stand alone" talent, if you will.

No. I hate Lebron as much as the next guy, but Scottie Pippen is getting more overrated the longer he's out of the league. In about 10 years people are gonna start saying he was better than Jordan.

LeBron has not proven himself to be a better rebounder than Scottie Pippen, nor do I think he has a higher basketball IQ.
Defensively, it's quite stupid to put these two in the same ballpark since Pippen is widely regarded as one of the best defensive wings (and probably THE best) ever.
Then you have all the intangibles which most certain go in Pippen's favor.
LeBron is pretty clearly the guy you want to build your franchise around as a 1st option, but if choosing between those two for a 2nd option role, you really can make a strong argument for Pippen. He's exactly what you want behind another superstar.

Wow. I like Scottie a lot more than I like LeBron, but Scottie isn't anywhere near LeBron, and it's not close at all.

I don't think Scottie is overrated.
Pippen played 12 years with the Bulls during the "Jordan Era" and, for the most part, two of those years were spent without Jordan.
During those two years without Jordan, Pippen put up huge numbers. He averaged 22 and 21.4 points while grabbing 8.7 and 8.1 rebounds, dishing out 5.6 and 5.3 assists, and averaged 2.9 steals both seasons—and these were his per game stats.

Not sure this will be welcomed but...
Scottie seems like a rich mans Igoudala to me. Great defenders, great rebounders by position, the passing to be point forwards, both scored largely on fantastic athleticism, both with questionable jumpers, the resemblence seems almost uncanny
Scottie just did all of that better than Iggy

He was never the brightest bulb in the box. Many times, he wasn't even as smart as the box itself...

I don't think it's that crazy... I mean, the difference between a superstar hall of famer, and an all-star is sometimes really "only" this, the hall of famer is a little bit better at everything. Sometimes maybe even just the mental aspects of the game. (There is a serious problem with this sentence, isn't it?)

Rodman's a nut, but he is one of the smartest players in the history of the game. I remember reading an article in which Kurt Rambiss was interviewed after Rodman's brief stay with the Lakers. Dennis was teaching the Laker rookies the team's offense on the FIRST day of practice. Kurt was stunned. He had never seen anything like it before. Rodman knew their whole playbook, and this was before Phil showed up there and took over as the coach.
Jackson has gone on the record saying that no one learned the triangle offense faster than Dennis did, and he tried really hard to bring Dennis with him when he first took over in LA,but there was too much bad blood from Rodman's previous stay.
Rodman likes to say things to get a rise of out people, and is a maladjusted wierdo in regular life, but he is a basketball genius. Crazy and dumb are not the same thing.

Thank goodness someone else said it, now I don't feel so much like a homer/lunatic.

22/8/5 may be huge numbers for Pip (aka the years without MJ), but if Lebron put up those numbers it would be considered a huge disappointment. Scottie was an incredible player who got nearly everything out of his potential. Lets be serious though, Lebron is on a different level in terms of natural basketball talent as well as expectations.
Admittedly, his defense will never approach that of Scotties...Pip could wreak havoc and completely disrupt an entire teams half court sets for large portions of games seemingly at will (his on ball defense on pg's bringing the ball upcourt was a thing of beauty, i've never seen someone frustrate opposing pg's that badly).
I actually watch this video like every month or two, one of my faves.

LeBron is clearly a better first option. Pippen on the other hand is a better second option, seeing as his defense was leagues better than LeBron and the man did pretty much everything. Oh, and he also had next to no ego and was a great leader.
And for everyone knocking Rodman for his craziness, yeah, he's crazy, but the man knows basketball.

I think he is awesome for being crazy, I don't see it as a knock. I love me some crazy players.

Scottie also has a much better handle, that and BBIQ really sets Scottie apart from Iggy.
