Funny how they call that a donation. This should not have been made public.

Massive news considering many schools in that area are being forced to disband middle school athletic programs, in addition to many schools making high school students pay to play football. (crazy considering the amount of talent in Meck. county).

250K is a ton of money and will be able to keep a fair amount of programs afloat. Hopefully other businesses follow suit.

How is this massive news? First off, the Bobcats were handed a publicly financed 300 million dollar arena. Secondly, Mecklenburg county would have plenty of money to spend on schools had they budgeted their finances properly. You have clueless liberal's running the city budget and unfortunately because of all their ridiculous spending in the past and also now, Charlotte is headed towards bankruptcy.

Couple of things to keep in mind:

1. The arena business. When it was built, talks about charging high schools outrageous amounts (wasn't it 10k+?) to hold graduation ceremonies there. That's hurt the organizational image a bit.
2. With a dull off-season, it's good to do something like this and announce it publicly.
3. 250k is a LOT of money to donate, even for most companies. You regularly see small donations (< $50k) but it's uncommon to see a quarter of a million dollars being donated to local schools in this region.
4. Back to the arena, yes, it was publicly funded so there are underlining reasons to do these donations. Keep taxpayers happy, many taxpayers are parents, keep them happy by providing for their children. That's capitalistic politics for you.
5. Financial issues with education aren't limited to Charlotte. It's a national issue that no donation is going to solve. Regardless, even if the athletic program wasn't in financial despair, I think the Bobcats would have still made the donation. Would have been a smaller amount though.

Good move. Middle school athletics gateway to high school, which gets some of these guys into college. Plus, with any urban city such as Charlotte, athletics provides an escape from crime which helps everyone. It's not a lot of money but you can purchase a lot of things with $250k.

Char-meck schools need all the help they can get.

Used to do volunteer work and mentoring in Charlotte... ugh.
