There is a growing sense, watching Ricky Romero pitch, that the Toronto Blue Jays made an excellent decision locking the lefthander up with a five-year contract earlier this season.
Nobody can guarantee Romero is going to become a 20-game winner and Cy Young candidate like former Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay. But the 25-year-old is offering a certain sense of security to the Major League Baseball club.
Romero allowed just one run in seven innings -- the eighth time in 10 starts Romero has pitched at least seven innings -- as Toronto beat the Texas Rangers 7-2 on Monday.
The Jays are now 6-1 this season against the American League West Division leaders.
Romero, meanwhile, is 12-8 on the season, one win shy of the 13 he had as a rookie last year.
Opposing teams are discovering similarities in Halladay and Romero: Get to them early or let the game pass you by.
