Eagles @ Lions - Game 2

Post#1 » by ajaX82 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 11:42 pm

1 pm

Sunday

We go for win #2, errrr 1, against an interesting team. Will it be Kolb or Vick? Will their recievers just sprint by our corners? Will McCoy be stopped by the new outstanding D-line? Will Shaun Hill lead a decent offensive attack? Can we actually run the ball?

Lots of fun questions

Oh man not the Stanton thing again. I thought we all agreed he wasn't any good. Shaun Hill is pretty clearly a better player

And i agree with the yes to all except the Kolb or Vick question. That is not a yes/no question. I expect to see Vick FWIW

It will probably be Vick, but hopefully Philly has some of those crazy pills left that they took when they annointed Kolb the starter to begin with, lol. I have no idea how this Kolb guy beat out Vick, but somebody must've had some top secret pictures for a player that has done nothing to get handed the starting job, lol.

I'd much rather see him than Vick. Although being our strength is the D-line, and our weakness is the secondary, Vick might actually be easier to defend, because he's not going to beat you with his arm, and after getting knocked around by Suh and VanDen Bosch a few times he'll probably think twice about running either. Plus, it would be nice to see Vick take a beating for all he's done. Whoever it is, I like the Lions chances a lot better now, than when the season started. Phily didn't look that great, and the Lions defense looked way better than I thought.

Who's McCoy?

Kolb isn't ruled out. They are waiting for test results before he can practice... so who knows there.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Stanton play a little. His ability to scramble to extend plays could come in handy, especially if our run game is faltering once again. I'm not talking about him playing the whole game, but a few pays or series wouldn't hurt.

I really hope Linehan opens the playbook and actually looks for Calvin Johnson before the final drive of the game. He's 6'5" 245lbs.... throw it up there... no one will out jump him.

We really need to get pressure up front because our corners can't cover Maclin.

We have a shot though. A small shot, but a shot. Let's hope our players come out angry and hungry for a win.

I agree 100 % stanton would make the game interesting and would move the ball downfield.

Hill didn't throw downfield because Linehan wouldn't let him. He won't let Stanton do that either, don't get your hopes up there. I expect some of the reins to be taken off Hill this week.

I'm really hoping it's Vick and not Kolb, and for much the same reason y'all think you want Stanton and not Hill: Vick cannot throw the ball down the field. Great arm, spotty accuracy and he hasn't ever learned how to look for, or off, a safety. Kolb doesn't have a big arm but he's very accurate out to about 30 yards. The Lions strength is the DL, which is the #1 way to contain a mobile QB. He's not as likely to get outside on a 4-3 front with VDB and Avril at end and a savvy vet like Peterson behind them, plus Delmas can "spy" him because he can ignore the downfield throws once Vick starts scrambling. It's very easy for a fast QB to get outside runs against a 3-4 front, esp. when the OLBs don't understand containment principles. The Lions primary defensive weakness is in downfield coverage, and Kolb presents much more of a threat to that than Vick.

IMO this game comes down to which OL can control the other team's DL, which is big weakness vs. big strength on both sides. Philly's center is out, which means Suh gets to feast on a backup. I thought SL Hill played well and Corey Williams dominated when he was fresh. Trent Cole vs. Jeff Backus is a big problem for DET, so is the zone blitz between the tackles. I see a lower offensive scoring game with several turnovers, some of which might get turned into scores and that will be the difference.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Yeah, I agree. We match up better with Vick I think.

Our weak pass coverage wnont be threatened as much because of his poor accuracy.

And our great D-line should neutralize any running around he may try.

I don't know if Kolb has a great arm, but sounds like he's more of a pocket passer, and could cause trouble in our secondary. Though his inexperience could cause him trouble if the D-line gets to him a few times early and shakes him up a bit. Either way, it seems like the Eagles won't be as tough as I thought going into the season. Without McNabb, they kind of remind me of the Pistons w/o Chauncey.

Game has sold out. Will be televised locally. Good start to the season, IMO. Hopefully we get a win and show the fans there's a reason to go to Ford Field this year.

I just watch it online when it's blacked out. You can find free feeds if you look around. I haven't missed a game in years, even with blackouts.

Thats what I was thinking, I never watched an NFL game online, but have for some other sport, and next blackout I'm going to try that. Do you think they'll have pre-season NBA streaming somewhere? The Pistons are only televising 2 pre-season games this year, and would love to see the young guys getting PT in the pre-season.

Just keep in mind that users cannot post links to streaming sites here. Just an FYI

Which is why I wanted to see Stanton. We gain info and possible development of a young good player to use or trade, and we risk that by going with Hill.

The Lions could have also saved more overall time on the clock by using a TO on the Eagles first down play, instead they saved many less seconds and now we have many less to work with. They do this all the time.

And now we side with a limping Shaun Hill over Drew. This team has no guts or courage to fight it out with the best players that match up to give us the best chance of winning. God what a waste.

The Lions coached themselves right out of this game, terrible job by Gunther and his secondary coaching, and too many simple missed things all day long that the guys on the sidelines are supposed to be paying attention to. That just shortchanges our players and makes the difference between a W and an L. You can't win respect or credibility in this league when you handcuff yourself voluntarily.

The lions should have had 2 int but our defence(dropped the ball both times) and 6 additional sacks they missed.they have to be more accountable.
