Hawk Puts House Up For Sale

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Wed Sep 15, 2010 3:08 pm

We can be sure that Hawk won't get his $10 million salary next year. They may attempt to restructure it or just let him go (another Packer that Minnesota can sign). I think TT wouldn't mind having him back but the Chillar resigning (and Chillar taking Hawks place in the nickel) means he's going to have to sign pretty cheap if he wants to stay.

Thank you for the mediocrity Mr. Hawk. Have fun in Minny.

People get on Harrell, but Hawk to me is the biggest Packers draft bust since Buckley. Harrell and Reynolds can fall back on injuries. Hawk has been perfectly healthy in his tenure here and he's been no better than average, if that. When you're the 5th overall you gotta be an impact player. The guy I wanted in Davis just became the highest paid TE in NFL history. My 2nd choice, Ngata, is one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the league.

Big whiff by Ted on that one.

It's weird because I feel like his first year or two in the league he was a solid player with moments that looked like maybe he would become something more. It seems like whe has regressed every year instead of improving.

I recall reading an article on that draft and how terrible the first round ended up being in general outside of a couple of guys. Davis was definitely the guy that I wanted.

Probably the biggest mistake Thompson has made so far since being GM.

It's unfair to say the pick was a mistake. Everyone and their mom knew Hawk was the player to pick at 5. He was the safest pick. Harrell on the other hand hadn't played in a year and was coming off of a torn calf IIRC. Pretty sure he wasn't even projected in the first round.

Wasn't projected in the first round by the ESPN "experts". The same people who had Neal nowhere on their board when we took him in the 2nd round, then there was a leaked picture of the Dallas Cowboys draft room board and they had Neal rated similarly to where the Packers took him. I will never ever put too much stock into what the talking heads say about player evaluation. If Mel Kiper Jr. was as good at evaluating talent as he thinks he is he would have been offered a job to be a GM or highly paid scout somewhere.

Can't say I'd lose any sleep about letting Hawk go. Either he's invisible or getting burned/missing tackles.

I was a Vernon Davis guy too. 250lb TE that runs a 4.3 40? :droop: You gotta take the special talent at #5 always. 'But AJ was always the dreaded "Packer person" whatever that means so I doubt it was ever seriously considered. I remember thinking we had a shot at Mario Williams at one time before he shot up to #1.

It will be interesting to see if Hawk's parents put their house up for sale. It's a couple blocks from Lambeau. Of course since it's much cheaper and thus easier to sell they probably can wait.

I didn't like Hawk at #5. I normally don't like the "solid" pick. He was the anti-Vernon Davis where Davis was a big question mark and Hawk apparently had lower potential but was pretty much a guarantee was what the pundits were saying. Also, reading everything about his inability to stay with an offensive player juking in front of him was the dagger for me. How the hell can you be an NFL linebacker if you lack that skill?

I wanted Vernon Davis if we couldn't get Vince Young, and I'm being serious. I will also tell you I thought Rodgers was going to be a bust so you'll believe me. I did not like Hawk at all there. No thanks to a guy that his a ceiling of a 2 or 3 time pro bowler that isn't going to change your franchise there.

I also liked the Harrell pick. When you can solidify your line with a talent like that, you do it. Everyone tries to pretend they are the expert because they'd never heard of the guy and he had injury history. "See, told ya!!!" The injuries were a risk, just like Moss' character issues were a risk. Sometimes you take it in the late teens/early 20s of a draft.

Then they neglect to admit they had the same opinion of guys like Jennings, Collins, James Jones, Neal, etc. that were unknowns at that point.

I would like to keep Hawk as a back-up LB if we can. I think he's going to try to go somewhere that he can start and get more money though.

We shoulda just went 0-16 that year and got Mario Williams.

Damn it lol

Hawks is decent but he's just not worthy of being a top #5 pick.

The disappointment in Hawk has increased 1000X since we got Clay.

Could you imagine how ridiculous our defense would be if Hawk was as good as Matthews. :o

Hawk was the next big thing at LB coming out of college. He was an absolute freak at Ohio State. He just isn't on the right workout plan. He needs to follow around Clay next offseason if he wants to pickup his career.

I still think he does too much upper body work. (Hawk that is)

The guy seems top heavy to me. I think it slows him down and makes him easier to knock off of his base.

It seems like he should work out his legs a lot more and focus on speed rather than just being huge.

Yep. At this rate, Hawk is going to play DE in a 4-3 in 2 years.
