McCants questions

Post#1 » by Gant » Wed Sep 22, 2010 8:15 pm

In your opinion, can McCants still become a player in this league?

Why didn't he succeed with in Minnesota?

What are his weaknesses? And strengths (if any)?

Thanks

Doubtful

If you have ESPN Insider, this is a good, but sad story. He just doesn't "get it"

His best hope is to land a gig in Europe.

He can score like no other if he can keep focused. His defense if he tried is actually okay, but he's too reachy.

He can shoot, he can dribble/get to the rim and score.

Problem is..... he doesn't want to be coached.

The reason I asked is, Celtics beat writer Sherrod Blakely just tweeted: "Along with the Boston Celtics, Toronto, Memphis and the Clippers have interest in Rashad McCants according to his agent."

So apparently McCants is going to get a shot to make a team.

If the Celtics pick him up he'll be reunited with Garnett. He'd be competing for one of the last two roster spots with Von Wafer and Delonte West among others. The other 13 roster spots are already guaranteed.

As skydragonslashs said, he been labeled as uncoachable, and apparently a number of times staff has requested that he see a psychiatrist. He attributes it to not smiling enough, or something like that.

He has attitude issues that he doesn't want to admit. He needs to be humbled.

A reunion with KG may be a good thing, but I'm guessing KG won't be as tolerant and willing to take him under his wing. McCants isn't a fresh-eyed rookie anymore.

He was a defensive liability on the court, and wasn't a good teammate. Inconsistent offensively, but show flashes of taking over games.

With all that said, I think it was Wittman's horrible coaching that broke him.

Somebody mentioned that he may have some type of anxiety disorder or something. Really, his mentality is holding him back hugely. If he had a different mind set, he'd probably at least be a glue guy around the league. He has the talent that's for sure.

He is in complete denial that he has any issues to work on with his game or his mental demeanor. You can't coach someone who believes he is perfect. He isn't the first guy to waste his talent by not seeing his own flaws and sadly he won't be the last. We can hope we don't have any more of them on the Wolves though.

He's a good but not great scorer. He is most effective when games are irrelevant and the other teams defense relaxes. Scoring is the best aspect of the game, but he's ok at most things when he works at it. I don't think he can raise his game when the intensity shifts to play-off levels, but he hasn't really been tested.

I remember worrying that there would not be enough minutes for Gerald Green and McCants..
Good times.
