Marshawn Lynch traded to Seahawks for 4th + conditional pick

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Tue Oct 5, 2010 6:46 pm

This needs its own thread.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/104358214.html

Green Bay - Any thoughts of the Packers trading for Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch are gone.

The Seahawks have acquired the 24-year-old former Pro Bowl back for a fourth-round pick in 2011, and a conditional pick in '12, according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com.

Seems like fair value for a player Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a college teammate of Lynch's, advocated the team getting.

Interesting that the team to acquire Lynch was the Seahawks. The general manager under coach Pete Carroll is former long-time Thompson aide John Schneider.

With the Packers, part of Schneider's duties was to find and work on potential trades. He would work on deals, similar to the Lynch trade, and then submit them to Thompson. He then often passed.

It was a source of frustration for Schneider, according to a column by Bob McGinn earlier this season (Insider subscribers only). Here's a snippet:

Schneider remained the same well-compensated employee whether his recommendations were acted upon or not. But, as with most walks of life, when a lot of work basically never reaches fruition, a level of disappointment is sure to follow.

If we could have gotten him for a 3rd, TT screwed up on this one.

Obviously we need to see what the conditional pick is.

On the other hand, that pick is "conditional" so presumably it only is of any value if Lynch produces. No reason why we couldn't have gone along with such conditions as well.

Damn. I wonder what the conditions are for the conditional pick. I have a feeling that is where TT scoffed at the demand. Will be interesting if this comes back to bight us in the ass.

TT isn't serious about winning a Super Bowl if he just sat on his hands on this one.

Hopefully we do something to upgrade the RB position. It's getting to the point where I don't even want to see Brandon Jackson on the roster next year. I can't stand running backs that hit the hole like they are afraid to get hit. We need someone to run with a authority, that's the only reason Kuhn gets carries, he isn't a pussy.

FMinor, I agree.

This makes it pretty obvious that we're seriously rolling with:

Kuhn- FB?

Jackson- hesitant, slow mofo with no burst?

Nance- Can't get on the field cause the 2 previous are BETTER?!?!

Starks- PUP dude that realistically can't be expected to produce more than Nance?

Someone answer this question: How do we expect this Offense to "start clicking" with a stagnant/non-existing running game?

In most cases, the conditional pick is usually worse than the publicized "lead" pick. I can't think the odds are high that the extra pick is more than a 4th-7th rounder depending on how he produces.

I know, we can't bash TT yet until we know the whole story. But at some point TT has to make a move or two to show his club he's serious about a Championship. This was the move.

I'm glad we didn't make this move, but then again I'm not a big fan of Lynch.

I do agree we need to upgrade our RB position. I would be looking at DeAngelo Williams as well as trying out free agents like LJ and FWP.

Kuhn isn't pretty, but he's been producing when his number has been called to the tune of 4.7 ypc.

I would have given up a 4th. But if that conditional turns into a 2nd or 3rd that would be a tough pill to swallow.

Like I said in the other thread, I can't believe this one. I'll hold off until I see the parameters of the conditional pick but I'm pretty disappointed right now.

Tough to defend not slightly outbidding this offer to get Lynch. Of course TT may have better in the works...

Won't hold my breath though.

Seriously, the Seahawks with considerably less talent see an opportunity to maybe win the division. Why can't we see that the NFC may never be this wide open again and make a similar move?

Have to wait and see...

I would have really liked Lynch on this team.

That being said, I really hope MM wakes the **** up and moves Jackson back to being strictly a 3rd down guy. There is no reason to hand him the ball instead of Kuhn. Just have Hall be the full time FB (which he's fully capable of being).

Yeah, this pisses me off. Looks like we're content with standing pat with the black hole we have in the backfield right now.

To be honest, Lynch going to Seattle really doesn't make much of an impression on me. Two weeks ago this would have irked me quite a bit. But Kuhn has really impressed me. Like I said, he doesn't get many style points but he attacks the hole hard, he isn't brought down by only one guy and he's got just enough burst.

He should be the primary ball carrier, though I doubt it happens if MM's post-game comments are any indicator.

Considering I believe we will be picking around 90 in the 3rd and Lynch is better than the player we will get at that spot (most likely), I'd have pulled the trigger on this deal. Plus, Lynch is a long-term solution, not just a stop gap.

I agree, DB. I really don't know what MM sees on film that makes him want to hand the ball to Jackson.

It could be a resurgence of the huge, white RB in the NFL. Hillis in Cleveland and Kuhn in GB.

TT needs to go. Guys a clown. Hes doesnt even care about the season or wining a super bowl. All TT cares about is making sure the team is decent the next year. He doesn't even care about the current season. Thats why he can never make any moves to put this team over the top. TT lost us a super bowl with Favre and Moss and going deep into the playoffs. And the Packers are always a player or two away from being over the top and TT just wont do anything.

I think I dislike Jackson as much as xTitan dislikes Jones. I don't want him to see more than 5 or 6 carries a game. Give the bulk to Kuhn.

I think you're on the wrong website. I think this is where you belong...

http://www.firetedthompsonnow.com

It's been established how good of a GM TT is. Suggesting he should be fired is ridiculous.
