Dynasty Draft Advice: Holiday vs Brooks

Post#1 » by cochiseuofm » Wed Oct 6, 2010 3:20 pm

I was hoping I could get some advice on a conundrum I'm facing in my dynasty league. Just to give some background, we drafted our original teams three years ago. The rules are you keep as many players as you want each season, but there is no free agency during the season (all breakout players and rookies go into the next year's draft pool.)

This year we expanded so I lost a lot of my best players. My roster right now is built around Dwight Howard (H2H league BTW). I have David Lee, Nene, and Josh Smith to compliment him. I also picked up Darren Collison in the first round of this year's draft.

Anyways it is my pick again and I need another PG (Collison is my only one since I lost Russell Westbrook, Steve Nash and Devin Harris in expansion.) Aaron Brooks, Jrue Holiday and Raymond Felton are all available. Who should I take?

Remember this is a dynasty league so I'm more than willing to wait a year for the best one of the three to develop. My inclination is to take Holiday right now.

I would go with Jrue Holiday.

He doesn't everything a traditional PG would do, is in a great situation in Philly, and coach Collins raves about the young kid.

Brooks gives you volume 3's/game but his percentages are not that great, nor are his assists totals. He isn't a pass first PG, and there's a reason why Houston didn't extend him this off-season. I don't see him being in a Rockets uniform after this season and wouldn't be surprised Lowry the next starting PG for the team.

As for Felton, he will produce more being in NYC. But his FG% will not help, and he doesn't get hit enough threes. And I see more talent being acquired in NYC in the coming years.

Can you answer my post (Keeper League Draft!) Thanks.

Thanks for the response, I ended up taking Holiday because he was the player I wanted more. On a side note, how impressive is the UCLA crop of PGs in the last few years? Russell Westbrook, Darren Collison, and Jrue Holiday all could be good starters in the NBA.

Just for context, here is my roster now.

PG - Darren Collison, Jrue Holiday
SG - Jason Richardson, Kevin Martin
SF - Antawn Jamison
PF - Josh Smith, David Lee, Anthony Randolph
C - Dwight Howard, Nene Hilario

I start 7 of those guys (1 of each position and two Utils.) I think Dwight, Nene, Josh, and David give me a pretty good chance to win boards, blocks, and FG% every week. I'm going to try and target Trevor Ariza for the SF spot, as he can provide additional steals to help me win that category too (have a good foundation there with Josh Smith). Will probably fill out my roster with a couple of young fliers (thinking Terrence Williams and Jeff Teague.)
