Jets cheers and jeers thus far

Post#1 » by j4remi » Thu Oct 14, 2010 12:57 pm

I'm bored and I figured this might spark some discussion since it'll address multiple players and moves, so here are some cheers and jeers up to this point in the season.

Cheers:
Mark Sanchez - Not that his numbers are incredible, but 0 TO's after last season...it's impossible to leave him off. He's really coming into his own and has put together some impressive drives and only last week did he get his number one receiver.

LT - There was so much emphasis placed on this move by the media that Rex Ryan handed LT a book full of articles panning the move to sign him. Thomas Jones was supposed to be our backbone and leader (which he surely was), but LT has proven to be more talented and versatile already. He leads by example and has been crucial to our success on the offensive side.

Dustin Keller - Disappeared a bit last week but has really been a go to guy for Sanchez. I think it's interesting that we looked a bit lost in the red zone this past week when Sanchez only looked to Keller once. In the weeks where Keller was utilized more, he has come up with some beautiful grabs in the end zone.

The O-Line - Started off a bit sloppy, no doubt due to the addition and development of Slauson. There are still some bad holding calls but can you complain about an O-line that kept Sanchez protected and overwhelmed D-Lines for run blocking. Special kudos to Slauson for his improvement up until now and John Conner who as a rookie has made some major blocks at FB leading to big gains and TD's...I love the way that kid plays the game.

Cro - I eye-rolled at people claiming Cromartie wouldn't do well in this system. Yes, his numbers were not pretty over the past few years, but he was a fish out of water (reminds me of Vilma a bit). He has come in and stepped up. He should be covering two's but has done a great job on the one's. He's given up some big plays but not often and has held number one's in check without getting blown away.

Sione Pouha - Jenkins went down, we all gasped, this guy did exactly what he did last year. He's come in and we haven't lost all that much on the d-line. He's not Kris Jenkins, but he deserves props for how well he has done.

Jason Ferguson - With Pace out for 4 weeks, he really helped our pass rush. Another guy thrust into a role he wasn't expected to be in, and another player who stepped up.

Special Teams - They've been GREAT this year. We lost games on ST last year, but this year they might win us a few games (in fact they almost won us that Ravens game imo).

Jeers:
Revis - Sat out training camp...played a limited week 1, got hurt week 2 and we still haven't seen him play at his peak all season. He SHOULD sit out next week and heal up but that hamstring may linger all year. As good as the defense has been, picture it with the Revis of last year as an addition...oh dear lord.

Kyle Wilson - Has been abused repeatedly. Took reps guarding the second WR on the depth chart all through camp and has been thoroughly abused by 2's and 3's so far...Lost his spot to Coleman...do you guys remember how we felt about Coleman? I do.

Tannenbaum - I commend grabbing LT and Ferguson. I actually liked the pick of Wilson...but Wilson has been pretty bad, Ducasse hasn't touched the field and he gift wrapped Dany Woodhead for the Pats. That's the same Woodhead that everyone loved in Hardknocks. He also let Chauncey Washington go after a stellar preseason and you have to figure both Woodhead and Washington were released bc we have Mcknight...another draft pick who hasn't lived up to billing. We didn't have many picks this past draft but it hasn't looked like a good draft at all (Terminator was a Rex pick btw).

Schotty - I hate this guy. The Ravens game, he called plays like he was terrified and Sanchez responding by playing like he was terrified. After being pressured into letting Mark throw, Sanchize looks like that postseason QB we were loving last year. Then you look at the clock management of last game and you have to wonder what this guy is thinking. A lot of times I feel like he goes for the long ball in the worst situations and than runs when it really is available...I'm just not a big fan of Schotty though I appreciate his handling of run plays.

3rd and long blitzing - It's getting old. It worked last season when no one expected it...now that QB's realize Rex isn't bluffing (ever), they've keyed in on that 3rd and long blitz and gotten off the hook often enough to make you second guess the decision. Why take safeties out of the secondary?

agree with you^^^^ im going to add to the cheers section

Brad Smith- felt hes sort of under appreciated someone on the MNF booth called him the Jets "Swiss amry knife" and whoever said it hit the nail on the head, has made pretty big plays, passing  , running, and on Special teams, guy does it all for us, a very valuble weapon to have to our talented offense

Steve Weatherford- much better than last season, has constantly punted it 50+ yds and numerous times has put the opposing team in tough field positions

Great additions, I'm really happy with how many times Weatherford has pinned teams behind the twenty thus far. Brad Smith just does EVERYTHING, pass TD, rushing weapon and a special teams contributer for sure. The only thing is that I think you have to keep him as a "once in a while" weapon that you use to throw the d off balance. Nothing wrong with that though, he's managed to create positives out of just about any rep he gets.
