It needs to come out and say it's either O'Brien or me, but one of us has to go. Him or Roy. They are the two that could get away with it.

Re: Collison confused by O'Brien's rotation.
I was gonna post it sooner.
Previously TJ couldn't get past inferior pg's, and now Obie loves him???. I understand it was nice to showcase him, but it has gone beyond that because he is playing at such crucial moments.
Darren proved to be an all-star caliber pg in the right situation. It seems that any team would want to exploit that type of talent. Instead, DC's role has been reduced to initiating our unconventional offense. We need to let him dribble penetrate instead of passing it off just so someone else can launch a three. Instead of guys standing around the three-point line all day, we need Granger, Rush, Dunleavy, etc..., coming off high/low picks ready to shoot reasonable shots.
I guarantee Collison is capable of proper distribution.

But that's not what O'Brien's "system" is all about. Why would he adjust his "system" to fit another player's strengths?

When has that ever ended well for the player, or the team, regardless of the decision the team makes?
Ever? Doesn't that always signal a complete blow-up of the entire franchise? If Hibbert or Collison said that, they're probably both gone, and Obie is gone at the end of the year anyway. What good does that do?

"I thought our best chance of coming back was with A.J. in the game because he spaces the court, he shoots the 3 and he also needed playing time," O'Brien said. "I also think he did a nice job."
What?
Can Collison not shoot now? And what kind of excuse is " he needed playing time " ? You give people playing time in blowouts .. not games that could possibly be won.

Re: Collison confused by O'Brien's rotation.
I scratch my head as much as anyone else when it comes to O'Brien's allocation of minutes. But, I think we all have to admit Collison has not played that well on a consistent basis. He gets beat off the dribble more often than he should and he mishandles the ball more often than should be expected.
Some of the turnovers could logically be attributed to trying to adapt to the Pacer offensive system. But, that shouldn't have anything to do with the shoddy defense. There have been a few games where Collison has ligitimately played himself off the floor.
I had to laugh a week or so ago when O'Brien was quoted saying he in effect had two starting point guards. It would be more accurate to say he has two pretty competant backups.
I still think Collison will ultimately be a pretty good point guard. I really like his speed, ability to hit the three and finish around the basket.
It would be interesting to see exactly what distinguishes Collison and Ford (the guys who play) from Price (a guy who has gotten almost no run at all). From my very untrained vantage point Price looks like he might be the most savy of the three.

I would LOVE to take Ford out of the equation. Him and his 36% shooting. With him and Posey together, our bench shoots a terrible percentage.

I think TJ set the bar so low last year that just being a competant reserve this year has somehow won him some favor. Even on nights when Collison is clearly struggling I can't help but feel we are better off with him on the floor than Ford.

Bought Collison in our auction draft and had high hopes for him. Dude put up 20/9 as a starter in New Orleans and had them competitive in the west. Beyond crazy to see him fighting for PT with two mediocre guys in Indiana.

It really has nothin to do with DC but everything to do with JOB's lack of basketball knowledge.

Re: Collison confused by O'Brien's rotation.
come on. so Price got some PT in the fourth quarter of a game against Atlanta where we were well behind. what do you want coach to say? I put him in because we weren't going to win anyway? coaches just don't say that even when it's true. getting unhappy about your minutes when you are averaging as many minutes as DC is just isn't what a good team player does.

Re: Collison confused by O'Brien's rotation.
You are going to get some frustration when the coach wants it PGs to play like they are SGs. What was the point in bringing Collison to our team if they were just going to continue to implement this system where a PG has to play OFF the ball? i'd rather see Collison back up/play together with CP than watch him trying to figure out how he should play like a SG and almost completely negate his abilities as a PG. FIRE JOB who can't adjust his coaching for the talents of his players.
