Kerry Wood signs with Cubs (1/1.5)

Post#1 » by red222 » Thu Dec 16, 2010 5:39 am

Kerry Wood could be going home.

The free-agent right-hander is moving toward an agreement with the Chicago Cubs, the team that gave him his professional start, according to a major-league source.

The Cubs likely would use Wood as a set-up man for closer Carlos Marmol, enabling them to move right-hander Andrew Cashner to the starting rotation.

I like the potential signing. The back end of our bullpen is going to look really strong now. I hope Hendry doesn't give him a deal like the Indians did a few years back.

I like it... Now if we could have only given a minor legue deal to prior, we could have gotten the band back together.

hendry is the one who helped woody get 20 millions over last two year. woody was trying to stay here taking way less money, but hendry suggested to woody to get more money else where. hendry is a smart dude and i think we should appreciate this guy a little more.

Source: Kerry Wood set to rejoin Cubs
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/n ... OHeadlines
CHICAGO -- Right-handed pitcher Kerry Wood will return to his roots with the Chicago Cubs pending a favorable physical report by Cubs team doctors, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Wood and his family were determined to make the Cubs the final stop on a career that began when the Cubs made him the No. 4 overall pick in 1995.

Even after signing Wood, it appears the team will have the function of being able to add more pitching because of the assumption that Wood's deal will be manageable in terms of the Cubs' budget, according to a source.

Wood, who pitched for the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees last season, had offers from the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, according to the source, and reportedly from the Chicago White Sox.

That's possibly the best deal any MLB team could dream of this offseason. Welcome back Woody!!!!
