McRoberts lobbying for dunk contest

Post#1 » by granger05 » Tue Dec 28, 2010 6:09 am

Pacers power forward Josh McRoberts is desperate to be a participant in the slam dunk contest during All-Star weekend in February. The Indianapolis Star reports McRoberts and teammate Brandon Rush plan on releasing a video, which shows them acting out a scene from "White Men Can't Jump."

"I grew up watching the dunk contest. Now I want my part in it," McRoberts said. "It'll be fun being in it if it happens."

"We're trying to get our man Josh into the contest," Rush said. "It was fun taking part in it. Everybody should like it."

McRoberts plays the part of Woody Harrelson's character, Billy Hoyle, in the skit and Rush plays Wesley Snipes' character, Sidney Deane.

McRoberts and Rush bought the clothes worn in the movie on eBay.

I saw this blurb on the ESPN rumors page. Here's the LINK to the Mike Wells piece. This sounds like it's going to be embarrassing once it comes to light. It seems like an odd choice for your dunk contest campaign to focus on a scene about a guy who finally proved he could dunk one time, but only if someone threw him an alley-oop so he didn't have to palm the ball himself or take-off from a dribble or anything.

I'd prefer to see these guys act out a scene from a movie about a couple of basketball players trying to become successful all-around NBA-caliber starters. I'm starting to think McBob doesn't have his priorities in order. I thought he started the year well and looked like he might seize this job long-term as a defender and rebounder at the 4, but he's really not getting it done anymore.

The movie would make it. The dunk contest would just be icing on the cake.

The way the dunk contests have been going (with the exception of Dwight Howard) Josh would have a real legitimate chance.

I don't think there would be a rule against it, but I doubt it would be considered.

Shouldnt McBob be more concerned about winning his starting position back and learn how to play instead of wanting to dunk?

This is the only thing that piqued my interest too. It's worded strangely so it sounds like they bought the clothes from the actual "White Men Can't Jump" movie. The ones worn by Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. That would be awesome, especially because they wouldn't fit. Maybe that's where Paul George got his Stockton shorts from too, and they were worn by "The King," or "Duck."

There's nothing wrong with Carmel. You're just jealous that he is so much more skilled than you.
