Oilers looking to rebuild... Vet firesale?

The Oil will do what's right for the fans.

Nothing, to help turn this team's unpredictably horrendous season around.

There will be trades, mostly to change the culture of the team, which means veteran players beware...your time in Edmonton may soon be over.

Trade is the most 'friendly' way, but it is possible Edmonton will take a far more aggressive approach and bury players in the minors, or wait until the end of the season and buy out contracts, if necessary.

That's a very harsh way to change the culture, but the team you see today will look much different by the end of the summer.

Names like Sheldon Souray, Ethan Moreau, Steve Staios, Fernando Pisani, Robert Nilsson and Andrew Cogliano are familiar to those who closely monitor the trade circles, however with the exception of Cogliano - who many outside of Alberta believe is a mere team change away from being a very good number two centre - most in the group assembled above are a tough sell.

Buffalo is believed to be in the market for a defenceman to help their power play. However, armed with a no-move clause, Souray won't be shuffling off to Buffalo...he just won't.

Souray, Cogliano and Hemsky for Kulemin, Kaberle, Kadri and Leafs 2nd round draft pick.

Hemsky
Kessel
MacArthur
Phaneuf
Souray

this is exactly something burke would do and **** the bed in the process. Not sure why edmonton takes kaberle unless they are shipping him elsewhere (counters the youth movement). i like hemsky, he would be a good fit but souray is 34 and would be behind phaneuf and scheen on the depth chart which may not be what he wants. i know it is edmonton but he is -19 and that doesn't bode well.

essentially giving up kulemin and kadri doesn't make sense for the leafs. and edmonton is not a likely destination for kaberle.

i don't think you trade kaberle for souray straight up
or do kulemin for cogliano
or kadri + a 2nd for hemsky

Seriously? I wouldn't touch Souray with a 10 foot pole, unless they want to give someone like Eberle/MSP or their pick to take him off their hands. We have no use for him.

The only player I'd be interested in acquiring is Penner. He's exactly what we need.

I live in Edmonton and go to several Oilers games a year:

You don't want Penner. He is the slowest guy I have seen since Jason Allison. He has good hands around the net and is a big body. But he can't skate for shyte, loves to cherry pick, has no interest in playing defense or even hitting anybody with his size.

Souray is done. Piss Poor attitude and has barely played going on 3 years now. Still paid like a super-star thou.

Hemsky would be the guy you want. Great vision on the ice, and one of the best playmakers in the league from the RW. He would work great with Grabovski and Kulemin IMHO. Only problem is he doesn't really score alot of goals for a player of his salary. But next to those two he would pot 60 assists a year easy. He plays the same position as Kessel thou so it would be up to Burke to see if he wants to have his two most expensive forwards at the same position.

oh God no. Souray is done- can`t even play in the AHL right now. Cogliano has done nothing in the NHL so far, and although Hemsky is a great player, why would we give up Kulemin (possible 30 goal scorer), Kadri (#7 pick) and our only high pick this year? Oh, and we take on more salary and years in the process. Oilers would run and hide with this deal.

that is the worst proposed trade i've seen in ages and it would set the Leafs back 2 more years.

thus Burke is likely giving it a good thinkover.
