Over on Rubechat they have a feature where the OP of a thread is shown, in part, when you rest your mouse over the title of the thread. So it allows you to get a feel for what the thread is going to be like before entering.

Everytime I come here now I find myself thinking how great it would be here. It might be hard to put in though...thoughts?

You can see who started everythread. Simply view via the team forum. My guess is you're going through the team home page.

Right now I think the best we have is to simply insist that the thread title sums up the post and is not vague.
