Farmer's Field: LA's upcoming new NFL Stadium

LOS ANGELES -- A week after Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of AEG, formally laid out a timeline and proposal to build a $1 billion football stadium and events center in downtown Los Angeles, AEG revealed architectural renderings of the proposed venue from three design firms.

AEG has hired ICON Venue Group, a project management firm that worked on Denver's Invesco Field, to act as AEG's representative in the process after working with the group to build the 02 Arena in London.

Tim Romani, president of ICON Venue Group, said Wednesday the project would be built within AEG's $1 billion budget and on the proposed site, which is where the Los Angeles Convention Center's West Hall currently sits. The plan is to first tear down the West Hall, build a $350 million replacement and then begin construction on a 75,000-seat retractable roof stadium. If all goes as planned, construction on the new stadium would begin by 2012 with the stadium ready to be opened in time for the 2015 NFL season. AEG is also hoping the new stadium will host the Super Bowl in 2016, which would be the 50th anniversary of the first Super Bowl, which was held at the nearby Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

I love the location of this instead of the proposed City of Industry location. Farmer's Field? What a lame name. It could have been Farmer's Stadium or Farmer's Arena.Thoughts? Which team is coming to LA? Hopefully not the Chargers...

Farmer's Field home of the LA Vikings.

It should be the Jaguars, if anyone. The Vikings only seem to want to move because they can't get a new stadium and I hate teams that do that. They have a solid fanbase in Minnesota and good rivalries in the NFL North. That is where they should stay.

If the Vikings can't get a new stadium, I think it's them. LA would move to the NFC West and the Rams would move to the NFC North.

Regardless of the Lakers, an LA team will be huge. NFL > NBA (in terms of fanbase)

wow. now while i hope for a great following, turnout and success . . . an NFL football team in LA is definitely behind the 8ball with a POWERFUL LAKER franchise that has been built and built each year since the NFL left town. LAKER fans packed in the coliseum just for the parade a coupla years ago. the LAKER franchise is a DOMINANT franchise regardless of the sport. so again, i would hope for a successful football team, but a few years in the dump would not bring out a fanbase thats strongly on the side of the LAKERs in this town.
