McGowan taking a slow, but steady approach

Former first-round Draft pick hopes to return to Jays' rotation

DUNEDIN -- Dustin McGowan realizes he is running out of opportunities to get back to the Major Leagues.

The 28-year-old hasn't thrown a pitch in a Blue Jays uniform since 2008. A pair of major surgeries on his right shoulder derailed a once promising career that seemed destined to make him the ace of Toronto's starting rotation.

It has been a long, painful road to recovery, and it's something the native of Tennessee doesn't feel like he would be able to go through again.
