OT: Japanese Tsunami - 2 Donation links on pg 2
Did people see the coverage of the Japanese tsunami? It was triggered from an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale near the north of Japan. It's the first time I've ever seen the power and devastation of an incoming tsunami so vividly. A few towns have been completely wiped out and last time I checked 29 people have died but that is sure to keep rising.
For those who haven't seen the coverage:

My thoughts go out to those in Japan.

Re: OT: Japanese Tsunami
Watching the braeking news on the tv now. Frightening, scary scenes.
Apparently now, some nuclear reactors (Japan's main power source), are getting to be very hot, and they dont have enough electricity to cool it down. If it blows, I hate to think....

This is so wrong
There is some footage of the wave and a car escaping from it. Very scary.

Utter craziness. Never seen anything like it. I'm 10 miles inland on the coast of CA so nothing should happen near my house, but direct beachfront property could have some pretty serious issues.
Hawaii is about to get slammed.

There are some pacific islands, like real small ones, which are only a few meters above sea level that could be hit hard if the tsunami hits them.

I live on Guam, a U.S territory not too far a plane ride from Japan.
Anyway, most of Guam(or the northern end, where the majority of the population lives), is a quite a fair ways above sea level. The area most frequented by tourists is at sea level.
I don't think the Tsunami hit us. Not really watching the news at 11:40pm.

Good to hear it; I spent a lot of time on Okinawa and it was the first thing I wondered.
The President posted onto Facebook that he has FEMA ready to go in case any of the U.S. Pacific islands get hit. I imagine we'll be sending aid to Japan, as well.
Thing is that in the time I spent there, I was amazed by the preparations they took for this kind of thing. It's always vexing to me that the U.S. seems to have no problem building trailer parks up and down the Atlantic coast where there's hurricanes annually. Japan was as prepared as a country can get, but when you're hit with words like "ever recorded", well...
One other thing: This is only cool in movies. There's bodies being washed up onto the shore, now. Who knows how many will just never be found.

You are one of the 'too many', and that's the absolute nicest thing I can say about you.
Google "Pacific ring of fire".

Wow, that's crazy. I had no idea Japan would get hit that hard. My hopes and prayers go out to the people there.
Luckily, Hawai'i didn't get hit hard and there were no idiots surfing in Waikiki this time.
Sad coincidence that I just happened to watch a Japanese documentary show earlier where they traveled and interviewed families from fishing villages. One of the families had a little 6yr-old girl and, during the interview, a ticker appeared at the bottom of the screen saying that the family had given permission to use this footage after the girl was swept away in a tsunami.

Absolute carnage. Whole planet's going through some extreme weather etc lately
The Japanese contingent who were assisting with the Earthquake here had to get back to Japan ASAP apparently, they're still finding bodies here. Madness

Re: OT: Japanese Tsunami
How many here have 3-4 weeks of food /water/supplies in store ? Do not get caught with your pants down. It is not unrealistic to think you may need them. No one is insulated from the effects of a natural disaster.
I've been through one hurricane (1989) and our power was out for almost 4 weeks. Tap water was unsafe to drink, untreated. The 'run' on canned food at the Grocery was completely crazy. Generators became luxury items, gas was scarce, ice was gold, water silver. You could not find batteries, lantern fuel, Propane, even candles. Martial Law for about 2 weeks. We essentially 'camped' indoors.
Put you and your family in a similar situation. Way too many people are not prepared. Having emergency rations/supplies is the responsible thing to do. Do not rely on the governments to save you (see Hurricane Katrina) for there will be many many people in line. Its amazing how people change when they are desperate. Encourage your friends and neighbors to supply their homes too. Even at the expense of ridicule. I have friends that think I am a wack job because I have 6 months of food in my pantry. I'll probably be feeding some of them. I hope not... but at least I will be able to.
of course on the other hand, to quote the great JR 'Bob' Dobbs.....'When the sht hits the fan,Its better to have bullets than bread"

^^My god. Those people are EVIL.
I have a two friends living in Japan, both of whom are AMERICAN. I wonder if those retards can even comprehend that concept.
As far as their bloodlust is concerned, wasn't two motherflipping atomic bombs enough? Jesus Christ
Anyways....if we all chipped in a buck, $5, etc., we can help a lot of people. This board did a good job raising some money after the Haiti disaster, and let's see if we can do the same here. These people need all the help they can get.

smh for that link.
I was watching this on the news at my workplace, and it was so shocking watching some of the clips and it's tough seeing all this madness.
There have been tsunami warnings towards Hawaii, Oregon and Washington's coasts and I've got some friends in Washington that have been evacuated for safety. It's been pretty crazy.

That site takes paypal and are 100% legit- designed to disperse money for natural disasters such as what is taking place in Japan. The red cross is amazing as well. Anyway we can help, we should.
