Who do the Kings draft?

Post#1 » by dukeknicksirish » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:29 pm

Getting a PF may be the best place to start...

-Jared Sullinger
Would allow Cousins and Sullinger to dominate the boards and get the ball out to Tyreke for the fast break...

-Harrison Barnes
Get some more scoring to this team...

-Jones(Baylor)
Add scoring and I big body to step up the defense....

What do you think?

Jones is risky, very risky. If you want to be a top pick, you have to show more than what he showed at Baylor. Not saying he doesn't have a high ceiling but these T-Mac comparisons need to STOP. It's like all those false impressions put out there about Derrick Favors when he was an entirely different player in reality.

Irving - DUH.
T. Jones - Great fit, good D, Odom/Jamison Jr.
D. Williams - Bigger, better offensive potential Shawn Marion, good fit at either F spot for us.
B. Knight - Great fit next to Reke. Big enough to guard some 2's, good 3 point spot shooter!
Barnes - Best pure wing to come around in ages, our 3 spot is far from locked up!
Sullinger - Like you said, we'd dominate the boards and it would be the perfect frontline for Westphal. Imagine him playing Sullinger in place of Dalembert down on the block!!! Would work perfectly for the way he wants to play offensively. We might actually start winning, hahaha.

One guy I'd like to see the Kings draft is Justin Harper. I've really liked what I've seen from him. Seems like a player that will bring all the things and at the level we expected from Jason Thompson. Good shooter, good size, good motor, more under control though.

Other guys I like but don't know if they're coming out are:

Draymond Green - What a passer, defender, and rebounder. Can play both forward spots and his IQ and passing are really just plain awesome. One of those players that just makes the offense flow. Undersized? So what, makes his team better.

CJ Leslie - Interesting player. Far from a finished product but he's got all the tools to be an off the charts defender and has a unique set of wing skills, not a comfortable shooter though.

Chris Singleton - Defense, defense, and more defense. Dude's a freaking machine on defense. Reminiscent of Ron Artest in the way he just attacks the dribble. Good shotblocker too. I really like him as a Josh Smith type of PF. Can easily defend SF's but I think his set of skills translate better to being a mismatch PF, much like I thought of Donte Greene coming out of Syracuse. Why be a below average shooter/slasher at SF, when at PF you would be elite at those things?

Jimmer Fredette - Probably a bit duplicative with Thornton here, in fact, dude could be Thorntons twin on the court in the way they play and body wise.

Donatas Motiejunas - Not too familiar with the Euros but I've seen clips of this guy and he's definitely got some skill offensively.

Jordan Hamilton - Another solid pure wing type. Plays defense, can shoot, can slash. Really solid. I personally think he's a lottery talent.

There are more but those are the ones I can rattle off the top of my head. Obviously the first group are the ones you'd consider taking with a top 5 pick, the others might fall to the 2nd round and/or could possibly be traded for. I think there will be an abundance of 1st rounders for sale since so many were traded in package deals recently.

Projected as being a high pick my feelings are very similar to most posters on this board in that I'd love Kyrie Irving for obvious reasons. Other players I'd like to see us target are either Brandon Knight, Derrick Williams, Sullinger, and Barnes. I'm not very high on the prospect of having either Perry Jones or Terrance Jones. I feel Terrance would be a horrible person to team with DeMarcus as we already have to deal with his attitude. The best match for our team is either Knight or Barnes but it might be too high to pick Knight at our pick.

I don't say Irving cause unless Sac has the #1 or #2 pick, he's no longer an optionn

I agree on Knight being to high of a pick... I say do a sign-and-trade involving Daly (cause he prolly won't resign) and get a backup center and get a pick in return...

pery jones is overated, hes not even part of all freshman 1st team. he just live by hes potential like derick favors. on the other hand brandon knight is very underated, high school phenom, 2 times high school gatorade player of the year. impresive freshman year in college. to everyone brandon knight is too high for a kings pick because people underates him, for me if he pick high, he desrve it. hes very young and already a proven player for that young age. brandon knight is perfect fit for both tyreke and cousins. knight will be drop to 10 - 13 pick but those gm who pass him will regret soon including anaheim gm. im a big fan of one and done player, i also like tjones barnes irving sullinger but as far as best fit to our 2 young stars, only brandon knight!

Why is everyone so hyped up on Jared Sullinger? He's just bigger than everyone in college. I don't see the Kevin Love comparisons at all. Love is at least close to 6'10' and has legit size. Sullinger is at most 6'6" he ain't athletic. He won't translate well to the NBA at all. I see Sean May 2.0 when I look at Sullinger.

I'm watching this Arizona/Duke game. The Kings need to get the 1st or 2nd pick because I'd take Derrick Williams or Kyrie Irving. They are the two difference makers in this draft. Anything below #2 they should trade.

He should be around 6'8" or 6'9" in shoes. Sullinger is skilled and has a very strong body with a rather huge behind ( ) so the ability for him to gain position by using it won't go away on the next level. Great low center of gravity and loves contact = good low post player.

Sean May? Eh, who knows what Sean May would have become if his knees didn't give out. He had a decent run there for awhile. Two different players that can't just be lumped into the same category IMO.

There is a possibility that the Kings could draft Irving even if the Kings would not get the 1st Pick.

As you can see, the bottom 4 that could have the top 5 pick, only the Kings and Cavaliers would like to have Irving as Minnesota and Washington already have a PG in Wall and possibly Rubio.

Cavaliers - Irving, D. Williams, Jones, Sullinger, Barnes
Washington - D. Williams, Jones, Sullinger, Barnes
Minnesota - D. Williams, Jones, Sullinger, Barnes
Kings - Irving, D. Williams, Jones, Sullinger, Barnes

In that case, the Kings just need to be lucky or hope that Cavaliers don't draft Irving like Cousins falling for the Kings.

For me, it's Kyrie Irving or D-Will or bust. This is the weakest draft in years in terms of star talent. I didn't say the draft is not talented. I just see a bunch of good role players in this draft, not much star potential.

Barnes & Walker too!

I always thought Walker is an auto top-7 or so pick. I wouldn't mind Walker with the Kings pick if we manage to lose Thornton in FA.

I want Irving cos he can distribute the ball well... but I would love to have D. Williams... he's like Andre Iguadala but with 60% from downtown!! Great handles too! and about 6'7" or 6'8" can play the 3 and 4 position.

PG - Udrih/Evans/FA PG?
SG - Evans/Thornton/Garcia
SF - Williams/Casspi/Greene
PF - Cousins/Thompson/Williams
C - Dalembert/Thompson/Cousins/Whiteside

I don't think SF is the gaping hole that others think it is, and I don't think we need another main scoring option at all. What we really need is a floor general offensively. Defensively, it wouldn't hurt to get a young anchor that can grow with the team. Still entirely possible that Whiteside is that player. But regardless, I'm not all that interested in guys like Sullinger, Williams, and Barnes for this team. I'd rather trade the pick at that point. Obviously I'd be thrilled with Irving if we get lucky. Otherwise, right now for me, it's Walker or trade for veteran help--possibly trade down for a little veteran help and Knight.

Derrick Williams has really impressed me. I'd only read about him before, but after watching the past two games I'm officially sold. He is a freaking stud beast.

But Irving would be awesome as well. The way he came back from a 26 game layoff was damn impressive.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

lets get more wins then draft knight. he is clutch, i watch that kid since his varsity year. when he had bad offensive game, he will get back in clutch situation to get W. dont worry bout hes offensive game, this kid is the top freshman scorer. perfect fit for tyreke, he wont compete with tyreke to dominate the ball and most of all this kid is clutch player already on his young age, we need clutch player, we lost many games in tight game. kemba is better than this kid right now but kemba is already junior in college, imagine how good knight when this kid is junior? already a good player and hes upside is sky the limit because hes very young. dmc is happy right now, elite 8 baby!
