AH Man...

Post#1 » by joelafan » Fri Mar 25, 2011 12:49 am

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said he’s not interested in the Lakers job, which will become available if Phil Jackson stays true to his promise to retire at season’s end.

"I've never thought of ever leaving Duke for another school but there were three serious times where I almost left to go to the pros," Krzyzewski said. "One was when Dave Gavitt took over the Celtics [in 1990], another was with the Trailblazers [in 1994] and the one that I took to a really far level was the Lakers situation. They were great with me. I just could not give up what I've done and gotten at Duke. It just wasn't worth it."

Krzyzewski, who has won four national titles at Duke, was reportedly offered a five-year, $40 million deal after Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak met with him around the time of the 2004 NBA draft.
Theres goes my duke to la fanstasy.... I was holding out hope but this just killed it. Oh well.

We couldn't convince him then and we're not going to now. Coach K is Duke, and Duke is Coach K. He's content where he is now, and he's enjoying the success he's receiving. This was kind of like last season when the Nets were willing to throw everything at him, and he straight up shot them down on every single proposal. The day Coach K leaves Duke is the day he's done with basketball period.

I use to have doubts about him coaching in the pros, but once he took that Olympic team laced with all those stars to a gold medal I was convinced he could handle being a pro coach.

I'm still down for Shaw.

Nothing new. Shaw will be our coach.

Little OT, but does anyone think besides me, for some reason I think Worthy should have tried coaching, he seems to have the head for it, insight and analytically speaking he know what he is talking about. Plus he would easily have any players respect. JMHO.

Never say never I suppose, but let's just say I have a better chance of becoming the new coach than the chances he leaves Duke. With me coaching we'd have a 6-peat btw . There's no question he can coach in the Pros but his ties with Duke are too strong and I just don't think he'd cut them. I for one would love the coach of my favorite college basketball team to come to the Pros and coach the Lakers, but I just can't see him doing so. Also say no to Shaw, say yes to Van Gundy/Adelman/Person

Why would you be pissed off at the announcers for that when Phil and Jeannie are saying the same thing?

And I don't follow NCAA but I'd welcome Coach K here if somehow he magically left Duke.

I don't understand why we keep forcing him. He already said it before that he does NOT want the Lakers job, period exclamation. Stop asking him and let him stay at Duke.

I would much rather keep it in house before bringing in someone from the outside. Brian Shaw is more than likely going to take over after this season.

nah. phil has been pretty clear that this is his last yr, nothing "may be" about it. he may change his mind, but he hasn't left any doubt in his comments up to this point.
