Which is why we hope for a top 3 pick. And if that doesn't happen (probably wont) we may have to package our two picks for one player we really want.

Total tangent here:
The interesting thing on Roy is that I think his knees are largely why he went 6th. And then everyone who passed on him looked like morons for several years... until now: Portland has a guy on a max contract who doesn't have a meniscus in either knee.
Portland admitted they knew about his knee issues when they drafted him, and they knew about his severe knee issues when they gave him the max extension:
"When he was drafted, we knew there were problems with his knees,'' [Blazers President Larry] Miller said. "When we talked about his extension last summer, it did come into play and into the discussions. But at the end of the day, he was the face of turning this organization and franchise around. He was Rookie of the Year, a three-time time All Star ... it just made all the sense in the world to give him the deal we gave him."
"There was some consideration given to (his knees) - but as we looked at it and talked - we decided he had earned this. He has earned this max contract regardless of what problems might come along.''
It's interesting that they cited lots of BACKWARD-looking reasons to give him the max extension. like "Look at all he's done for us, let's give him an extension" instead of "We think he'll be a max-player for years to come."
I think the Roy contract could become Portland's version of the AK deal.

With both picks, we have a combined 24% chance of getting a top 3 pick. To put that in perspective, the #1 team in the draft has a 25% chance of getting the top pick. Decent odds 1/4 we move up.

Huh; I hadn't thought of it like that. That IS pretty good, isn't it? Would be killer if our late pick ended up in the top three, and our #6 pick was pushed back just one or two slots.
... pipe dream, of course.

So what's the worst year there? I'm going with '95: Bryant "Big Country" Reeves and Cherokee Parks. Thought '94 might be worse.
Worst of the 00's is probably 2002 with Dajuan Wagner and Melvin Ely.

Re: Seems like it's a lock 6th and 12th pick in the draft
If we could slide up to that 2 or 3 with the balls going the right way and then at 12 too that would be great. I kind of want to make both picks though. i dont want to trade them unless we are getting a very good ball player. Like iggy or granger. I loved the way Derrick Williams played last night if we could get him and Brandon Knight then i think we have ourselves a beautiful draft. I think Knights stock is going to rise though.

Re: Seems like it's a lock 6th and 12th pick in the draft
Well think about all the great players that have gone after the 6th pick or later, 12th pick or later.
1985 - #7 Chris Mullin, #8 Detlef Schrempf, #13 Karl Malone, #18 Joe Dumars, #24 Terry Porter
1986 - #25 Mark Price, #27 Dennis Rodman, #46 Jeff Hornacek
1987 - #7 Kevin Johnson, #10 Horace Grant, #11 Reggie Miller, #18 Mark Jackson, #22 Reggie Lewis
1988 - #6 Hershey Hawkins, #9 Rony Seikaly, #14 Dan Majerle, #19 Rod Strickland,
1989 - #12 Mookie Blaylock, #14 Tim Hardaway, #17 Shawn Kemp, #26 Vlade Divac, #36 Cliff Robinson
That's just 5 drafts, and a lot of very good players in the 6 and 12th range. I feel the Jazz are a pretty good scouting team, I believe.

What makes you think so?? Like I said in another thread I'm worried about counting on these picks because the Jazz do not have a history of good drafts...and it's not so much that they grab bad players that bothers me as that good players are picked afterwards which would indicate poor scouting....I'm hoping that was because Sloan had alot of say in who was drafted rather than just poor scouting

The Jazz actually have a pretty damn good history of drafting. I can look up the numbers if i need to. I'm confident about their scouting, honestly.

You cant add the two together we have no shot with our own pick really its like you or making it to the NBA it isnt going to happen!

Why not? We have about a 3% chance of moving up with or own pick, and a 21% chance of moving up with the Nets pick. Combine the 2, and we have a 24% chance of moving up. Considering the lottery is done with ping pong balls, our combination of numbers makes up a 24% chance of getting into the top 3.
Why can't I do that?
