OT--iPhone Help
My iphone 3g has been an absolute trooper with my 2 small children doing all in their power to destroy it. After over 2 years I think it's finally been dealt a mortal blow. It will no longer charge and I can't hear squat over the phone (though the volume works fine in other areas). I don't want to buy a 4g just yet b/c I hear the 5g is around the corner and that the 4g isn't that great. I was hoping to get a 3g on the cheap but I don't see how to buy any new iphone at all without a 2 year contract. Does anyone know of a way around this?

Re: OT--iPhone Help
I just bought the iphone 4 last month (switched from a Droid X to the iphone 4 once the iphone was introduced to Verizon) and I have been very happy with it.
No dropped calls, very clear reception, fast internet, etc.
I know 4G is faster than the iphone 4's 3G but the 3G speed is fine for me.

Did you call (ATT right?) to see if you could pull that off? You can buy an iphone without an account, and hundreds or more likely thousands of hackers seem to have cracked the codes. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to connect a new iphone to an existing account.

Re: OT--iPhone Help
Take your phone into an Apple store, say it just broke or whatever. If you get really lucky, they'll somehow apply it to a warranty and give you a free refurb on the spot. If not, you can buy a 3GS refurb for 149 bucks, and get you back up and running on AT&T with no contract modifications.
That being said, I'd just re-up for an iPhone 4. It's a big improvement. I'm involved in a lot of mobile programming these days, and it's truly an amazing device.

Go into an Apple store and start crying. That always works for me.
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

Don't forget about the other half of your problem:
If you could swap them for a brand new 4g/5g, you'd be set!
