Ron Wilson to be back

Post#1 » by J-Roc » Thu Mar 31, 2011 7:35 pm

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke re-affirmed his loyalty to his head coach on Wednesday, saying Ron Wilson will be back behind the bench next season.

I have no problem with it. People say Reimer did all the work. I think what we saw is how much a difference a goalie makes. We had it for years with Cujo and Belfour.

That's why I'm all for getting Bryzgalov. Shore up your goaltending and everything else falls into place.

i disagree.
its a waste of $$ to get Bryzgalov.
if you're going to piss away money, do it on Richards. the team needs talent up front and can get by with Reimer.
i think Reimer's overrated. i like his story. but his #s will shoot up next year. teams know he goes to his knees early.

You need a top notch goalie. Believe me, I hate the idea of signing a free agent goalie to some ridiculous contract. Maybe there's another way to get a top notch goalie.

But the bottom line is even a scrub team like the Leafs can win if you have goaltending. Maybe Reimer is for real, but we've seen these streaks before. Remember JS Aubin. He was older, but still.....a streak at the end of the year.

And think about the Canucks a few years ago. Luongo fell into their hands, and now look how far they've come.

Do we have resident stat heads on the hockey forum? Is Bryszgalov for real, or does he have inefficient stats or fake saves? lol

Dreger said that Bryz doesnt get along with Allaire so he isnt coming here. Reimer and Gustavsson tandem next year should be good. Gustavson has played great for the Marlies. The Leafs have a ton of goalie depth right now. They have Rynass and Scrivens around too. They need a frontline C.

Wilson can come back but he needs a new PK/PP guy. Its been horrible the past few years

I'm fine w/ Wilson for now. Dont like the guy but the team is playing well and he's part of the reason.

As for Reimer, it's more than a fluke/good run and I'm completely fine with him as our #1 moving forward. Like D.F. mentioned, we do have Gustavvson, Rynnas and Scrivens as well. Our best bet would be to get a quality backup and take it from there. It'd be a huge slap in the face of Reimer if we went out and signed a #1 IMO.

Ron Wilson has done a decent job this year. He hasn't been spectacular, but not quite as bad as he was at the beginning of the year. He's gotten good years out of Grabo, Macarthur and some of the other 4th line scrubs we had.

As for Reimer, are you guys serious? How does a 23 year old rookie step into a basement finishing team, turn them around and make a playoff push, and still be considered overrated/fluky? He's started 35 games, has 20 wins, and 5 overtime losses. He's top 5 in save percentage, has 3 shutouts and a respectable g.a.a. Only in Toronto.

Both Richards and Bryzgalov will be 31 this summer...

Considering our young core...I'd be hesitant to commit longterm money to anyone over the age of 30...

Ron Wilson is still not a good coach and should not be back. If the Leafs are going to make moves to add a frontline talent and goaltender to go for the playoffs, then Wilson should not return. If the plan is to continue to build with youth, keep him for the rest of the season.

If they choose to keep Wilson while trying to add pieces for a run at the playoffs, Wilson needs to change his staff. Whatever they are preaching on special teams just isn't working and new blood is needed.

yes this. must we even go through this again. acquiring a top line center is and should be burke's utmost priority. bryzgalov is a legitimate vezina candidate year in and year out, but reimer has nearly half a season of shut-down goaltending that we cannot just write-off as being a fluke...let's give em a bit of credit here.

we need to get richards. toss a duffel bag of robert borden's on his doorstep and see what he can do with kessel on the top line. kessel's easily a 40 goal scorer if alongside a prolific playmaker like richards imo. and then go after pitkanen to play with schenn so that we don't have to see that slouch gunnarsson deflecting pucks into his own net anymore. boom, playoffs.

Get a center who can **** score and this team will likely be in the playoffs next season. Kessel's talent is going waste. Its a stepping stone... **** the idea of being cost conscious. Burke can create wiggle room and always find ways to move players around

Return to Toronto Maple Leafs
