ATL/DAL: Joe for Terry

..... one guy is even offering Terry, Chandler (SnT), and a 1st round pick! :)

if the Hawks could work out Joe and Zaza for Terry, Chandler ($6M per), and a pick, it would be a dream come true.

Hawks could be 2 years away from:
Dwight/Tyson
Horford/TBA
Smoove/TBA
Marvin/Wilkins
Teague/TBA

hopefully those TBA could be some MLE vets like McDyess, Andre Miller, Kidd, Nash, Posey, Vince Carter, Ben Wallace, etc

"One guy". A team that emphasizes advanced stats like Dallas would be highly unlikely to trade both Terry and Chandler for Joe. Chandler is the key to the Mavs defense(and will get more than the MLE) and Joe really hasn't done more than Terry offensively this year which is sad.

^ i'm okay with just Joe for Terry, but then when they started talking about Chandler, man that would be a deal.

i agree that offensively that Joe hasn't done more than Terry, but Joe is 6'8 and plays defense, and Dallas loves to give huge contracts to vet players like Marion and Haywood.

of course Chandler will get more than the MLE, nobody said he wouldn't, that is why i pegged him at $6-$7M per

btw: the majority of the Dallas fans would take the Joe for Terry (and expiring) deal

You would really trade Joe for Terry,do you realize we would get swept even worse during the playoffs.Ya'll really take Joe for granted like he's having the worse season ever smh.

Joe gets more points, assists and rebounds with nagging injuries

I just seen Mavericks play the Lakers and Terry looked terrible out there. The backcourt would be undersized for one year, but I would do the trade for the future of 2012. Crazy flexibility.

The Hawks could easily win the East with one more All-Star at PG/C but are stuck on neutral, I bet FO is bluffing with this playoff season being pivotal. We will see if
A) They are perfectly happy with simply making the playoffs like clockwork.
or
B) They are desperate to improve.

....that's because he plays more minutes? Their points and assist totals are near identical on a per minute basis.

And Joe didn't look terrible the last time we played the Lakers or the entire 2009 and 2010 playoffs?

& The purpose of this trade wouldn't be to gain Terry...it would be to get rid of the player with possibly the worst contract in the NBA while receiving an expiring contract.

They just look at getting out of Joe's contract, which is horrible, but he still averages above his career numbers, with nagging injuries. Man people expect him to be an Iron Man even when he is signed to a hefty contract. I don't remember all this talk about Joe sucking so bad, that we need to trade him for Terry back in January.

Still recovering from elbow surgery and recently a bad thumb on the shooting hand and he still finds a way to average 18.5 despite shooting 30% from 3.

Mavs may be willing to do a deal later because when I watch them I notice that they did a lot to add size to their frontcourt but having Jason Kidd as your biggest guard isn't going to cut it against the Lakers. Sure there will be plenty of tall wings available in the summer but hopefully they buy into Joe's pedigree.

Joe is a #2, and would fit better on the Mavs playing behind Dirk. with less pressure, he woud produce more an be more affected. this whole experiment of Joe as #1 is no working.

he is high priced for a #2, but Cuban loves to over pay.

I just ran this through the trade machine ..... Joe and Zaza for Terry, Haywood, and a pick

the trade works and still allows the Hawks to offer a max contract to Dwight, or Deron, or CP3

we're good with Zaza at backup, ixnay on Haywood. We will have to see what happens in playoffs and the mew CBA. As it currently stands Joe for Terry, the talent drop off is enough incentive for Mavs without taking back a bad contract.

i'm ok with both options, but one positive about including Haywood, is that it gives the Hawks a good insurance policy, and placates the Horford fans.

if the Hawks miss out on Dwight a line up of Haywood/Horford/Smoove/Marvin/CP3 would look good

if the Hawks miss out on all three, Dwight, CP3, and Deron, then the team can still put something decent together and use the cap to get a quality starter and quality 6th, something like Haywood/Horford/Smoove/Marvin/Devin Harris and Anthony Morrow at the 6th

the possible free agents in 2013 are Devin Harris, Jose Calderon, Louis Williams, Jameer Nelson, Jarrett Jack, Anthony Morrow, Mo Williams, Kevin Martin, Dorell Wright, Will Bynum, Ramon Sessions

although some might think that trading Joe for Terry is risky, and will most likely result in the Hawks loosing Joe and not getting Dwight, CP, or Deron, those same people don't know that their are alot of quality free agents in 2013, especially at PG. so even it is a dream to get Dwight, at worst case scenario the Hawks can still end up with a guy like Harris, Jack, Jose, or Louis

on the mavs board, they seemed to hate this idea. Though, i think the rest of the league is selling Joe way short.

they acted like joe was barely an upgrade over JET.

Joe for an expiring?

Done yesterday.

Then you move on to dumping Smith and Marvin.

Move Smith and Marvin then why would Dwight and CP3 come here? To play with Horford? :-?

No one is going to come to the Hawks because they have Marvin(and Dwight isn't coming period). I'd keep Smith because he's worth his contract(and probably wouldn't net much in return)but the Hawks need a complete makeover on the perimeter.

You lost me when you suggested Howard and Paul would come to Atlanta. Not getting that part.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
