VC's option?
When do we have to pick up VC's option? Anyone? anyone? I have seen him in trades using his contract as an expiring so someone knows. Before or after the draft? Sorry for posting a new thread for this so mods please answer my question before you merge.
Thanks
Thanks

There is no option.
There is a clause in his contract that a team can terminate the last year of his contract buying him out for 5M$.

Ok, I had heard that it was $4m. My question was how long does the team have to execute the buyout? Do we have until the start of free agency?

Mmm ESPN doesn't have the team option. I think it is something about waiving him until a certain date that he is owed just 4 or 5M$.
I think we have to trade him before the end of June.

Final year is worth $4,000,000 until June 30th.

Thanks. That would make sense. The free agency signing period usually starts July-1 I think.

Re: VC's option?
Anyone else notice the Suns still have salary cap holds on Jalen Rose, Gordan Giricek and Eric Piatkowski? Not much, totaling around 3.5 million...Someone tell those guys to **** or get off the pot already...Sign somewhere or retire...
Of course, the Pacers have over $27,000,000 in cap holds right now...Which to me just sounds other-worldly. How do you even let that happen?

Re: VC's option?
So technically he could be traded on or around draft day using his full $18m salary. Not likely based on the cba uncertainty but I have heard the fo plan is to exploit a lowered salary cap by making a "Pao" type trade.

Cap holds don't really matter since they don't matter in luxury tax calculations and you don't actually pay the players anything. That is why teams that never use cap room like the Pacers have a bunch of random guys on their cap.

Couldn't another team make a salary dump by trading for Vince and then immediately waiving him for his 5 mil?

Yeah. Teams can start trading as soon as they are out of contention, I think.

I think teams can agree in principle to trades as early as draft day, however they cannot officially be approved by the league office until the moratorium ends, which is like June 30th. Might be different this year if there is no CBA in place though - if the moratorium extends beyond July 1st then the option will already have to've been declined, which would make it untradeable..

So the question is can he be traded in principle on draft day for his full $18m 2011/12 salary and can the receiving team then waive him and take advantage of the $14m net savings before the June 30th deadline.

Exactly. The only possible spanner is the small possibility that the CBA negotiations get extended, and it in turn extends the no trade period beyond the buyout date.

i hope so and this is why ive mentioned several times on this board that i thought VC's contract might be better than jrich's contract if we werent going to extend jrich anyway.

If VC is traded, the new team has to honor the full $18 mil contract. The buyout would be negated.

Are you sure about this? We've seen it done before - something special about VC's deal?

That is wrong or prove it otherwise.
There is no such rule in the NBA. His contract is partially guaranteed and there are no restrictions to waving players. The new team just has to waive him before 30 June 2011 and the Suns can trade him on any day from now on.

Yeah I'm not sure about this one. I'm quite sure whoever has his contract at the time can buy him out before June 30th.
