About the Mods (pls don't lock)

Post#1 » by Tenacious_C » Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:28 pm

Not to dump on our Mod team, they have a busy job; I get it. However, their subjectiveness in locking threads is ridiculous. I have no idea what to post and what no to post. I posted this in an OT forum (as it is an OT thread) and it was locked for what appears to be simply because the Mod didn't find it funny.

I understand that this is a moderated forum and moderation is important for all parties involved, but the self righteousness of some mods is frustrating and wrong.

My feedback is to have mods elected by board members and have them "re-elected" annually. Us posters also make this site and shutting us down simply frustrates us more an makes this board seem like an inclusive club where you will only be heard if you agree with them.

Very lame and makes this board less appealing to me.

Thanks

Can someone please give me a valid reason why this was locked in an OT forum?

I locked it because it is an actual documentary that has been over dubbed by either an incredibly flamboyant fellow, or someone taking the piss out of gays and repeating the same crap over. Plus there is plenty of swearing.

This was addressed in my note when it was locked. I received your e-mail asking about my decision to lock it and calling in to question my concerns regarding the swearing.

Let me ask you a question: Do you think a website that prohibits swearing would embrace a video where it is rife?

I'm really not sure what part of my locking note in the thread you had a hard time wrapping your head around. Your thread was posted in the OT Canada forum - the honey badger (video's subject) has as much to do with Canada as you do MENSA.

If I'm in the wrong I'd love to hear other poster's and mods thoughts on this.

Tenacious_C,

I'd personally lock it because of the cursing in the video, the second one being since it's not aimed at a general audience, and the third because it most likely won't receive productive replies from other members of the site. If you want to discuss it further feel free to message me.

g. Members should remember this forum is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. Members who repeatedly evade the language censor to post offensive language may also be warned. viewtopic.php?f=191&t=812773

The thread was reported by two other users as offensive, besides that I personally would lock any thread that has swearing.

The swearing argument makes no sense at all. There are multiple threads with Youtube videos that contain swearing that are not locked, such as the general hip hop thread.

Or the Marijuana thread? Open talks on drug use is totally legit, but a gay guy talking about Honey Badgers is offside?

I get the complaints. People complain. This doesn't mean that the complaint has any merit. I understand that freedom of speech has limitations (there was nothing hateful in the clip) and that this is a private site that can do whatever it wants. It still doesn't make it right and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

First off, I posted a very polite and grown-up question about this matter in the appropriate channel. I don't appreciate your condescension and I most certainly don't deserve it. There are plenty of posts containing swearing or someone mouthing a curse. Whether it be Shaq's interview about the reffing against the raps or Kobe Bryant calling Bennie Adams an actual derogatory term.

Second, you suggesting that I don't possess the IQ to contribute to this forum is not only offensive; but an indication of the self importance that some of our (Raptors) Mods possess and seem to drum up when perusing threads to lock up.

Finally, I don't expect things to change. This is a private site and will maintain the status quo and individuals will be appointed to moderate the boards based on the number of posts and not the content of the thread (see poster I am replying too). What I can do is not visit your sponsors.

Thanks for your time

Chris

EDIT: And as if every Andrew Dodson thread posted on RealGM was locked. Those were much more offensive to so many more people than a man with a lisp speaking about a Honey Badger......which is also a Bad-ass animal.

First and foremost, I apologize for comparing a thread regarding honey badgers on the OT Canada Forum to your inclusion with MENSA. You are right - that was offside. But you are a little crazy if you think I'm here simply to peruse threads to lock up. You don't know me, so don't pretend to.

I can agree with you that the honey badger is probably the most bad ass of all animals.

next time, don't youtube it, and place a warning that it contains graphic material - but I sure wouldn't start a topic with that, too insensitive - plenty of us have gay relatives for whom we care deeply

Like my sister...who is a Lesbian. That clip is by no means offensive to gay people an to imply that there is some sort of homophobia in that clip is a flat out lie.

Graphic? Did you even watch the clip?

The lengths people will go to defend their right to post idiocy is awesome.
The OP didn't even say anything, just posted a youtube clip.

The thread was reported, and the moderator agreed with the report. You may disagree with the report, and use the time honored response, of "well look at them, they did almost the same as me!" but things get done on a case by case basis, and you sir/ma'am, have no case.

It looks like enough mods have expressed their opinion. It's time to move on, OP.
