Marcus Thornton would be perfect for you guys...

Post#1 » by orangeparka » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:45 am

Anyone thought of prying Thornton from the Kings this offseason? I've watched some Wolves games (especially those where Beasley did well), and I think Thornton would be a perfect fit for you guys moving forward.

He's a great ball-handler and terrific scorer. I know the Wolves need an SG and a go-to scorer in the worst way, and I think Thornton could be that. He's still really young too and could grow with the team. He'd be a better fit as alpha scoring option than Beasley IMO.

Only downside is that Sacramento is really fond of him too. You guys would have to overpay to get him.

We all know he can score, but the worst defensive team could use some defense first.

The team needs a lot more than a SG that can make shots - the team is just absolutely awful as it stands right now. I really think Beasley needs to go so we can move Wes to the 3. Perhaps Beasley for James Harden? He has made quite an impression on me so far in the playoffs. I would even be willing to overpay and send the Memphis pick as well. I just need change.

James Harden is the guy I want. Not sure how high OKC is on him though.

Beasley would be a nice frontcourt scoring option for OKC off the bench.

If it didn't cost a crazy amount then Thornton makes sense. But overpaying for him would be a mistake.

Thank you for the information because Timberwolves has a problem in the PG position. We only have 3 ... 4 if Irving is picked, and everybody knows a team who wants play the playoffs need at least 8 or 9 PGs.

A pretty knowledgeable Kings fan was saying Thornton's defense was better then he expected. He needed to work on man-D, but his team D was pretty good already, and he thinks he's progressed a lot since he had came there even.

As a fan you sometimes talk yourself into things. I'd rather have an unbiased opinion here. :dontknow:

Thornton is like the PG/SG version of Blake Griffin, he'll go on huge scoring runs but you're always expecting a big guard to score on him.
He's what people expected OJ Mayo to be. A taller Monta Ellis. Showed the post up ability at LSU and in the NBA can post up small SGs and most point guards. Will Score like 3 buckets in a row but then he'll give up size. U try to play team defense and mitigate it but he needs defenders near him ala a Deandre Jordan. Can play little shooting guard or shoot first lead guard in a big backcourt. 6'4 flat with a 6'5 wingspan. Monta Ellis on high heels, less dunks more 3s.
Relies on a defensive team advantage. On the undersized Hornets his defense really stood out.
On the Timberwolves you would have to compensate for Love and Thornton's defense at other positions. Impact player.
