Angels coaches have talk with struggling Wells

Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells is off to a devilish start with his new club, the Los Angeles Angels, and the coaching staff is concerned he's trying to do too much.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Wells -- who is batting just .181 so far this season -- met privately with manager Mike Scioscia and hitting coach Mickey Hatcher to talk over his issues.

That's the problem with making so much money, you get distracted thinking about what to do with it.

Man, what an awful trade for the Angels.. Still have no idea what their GM was thinking.. they should have just kept Rivera, Napoli, and perhaps look to trade them at the deadline instead..

So glad we traded the baseball version of Hedo.

But hey, we did pay them $5 mill (*chortle*). Since we're using basketball analogies, I'd say it was close to the P. Gasol trade in it's one-sidedness, if you take M. Gasol out and substitute Hoffa. The commissioner should investigate.

Actually, I feel bad for the Angels and for Wells. I wouldn't mind seeing him win a championship while we're still gearing up. To compare Vernon to Hedo is just wrong.

Hes really 2nd if you don't count Nix, who has had half the PA's.

People forget that he still got on base at a decent rate during his slow start. Now that the hits are coming the OBP is shooting up. You could argue he is one of our best hitters.

Rivera seems to draw a lot of walks, so he's finding ways to at least get on base

I agree. I would rather have Rivera, then Wells at this point in time. Wells is on the decline.

I still can't believe how AA was able to trade him, and get rid of that ridiculous contract!?!

Something that hasn't been a career norm...he's at 14 walks now, with a career high of 36. Have a feeling that the decrepitude of our order beyond him is a factor; Arencibia is the only guy after him on most nights who has done damage, and he's a rookie playing only half the time.

Hopefully Wells can get it turned around and have a respectable season. It looks like his swing is a total mess, and he's trying to hit home runs with every swing. He should just go back to trying to drive the ball like earlier in his career.
