Whos going to guard DIRK!?

Post#1 » by HeartSouloma » Sun May 15, 2011 11:44 pm

Who going guard this 7 ft? I mean Serge is a big guy that can stick on him, but hes not going to keep up with him that much. Dallas bigs is going to be a problem. I see Collison/Ibaka/Perk/ Nazr guarding this guy. I can't see Sef guarding Dirk hes just too weak.

I know it doesn't have anything to do with "basketball", but we need to pat them on their heads and tell them to run along. The Mavs shouldn't lose to a Minor league city. I still can't believe they have a basketball team.

P.S. Thunder is a dumb name.

Ibaka and Collison mostly. Maybe a bit of Durant.

He must be a Texas Longhorn fan.

Itll probably be ibaka to start, Collison coming off the bench, and well probably try small ball too and then well see Durant on him.

A mix of a bunch of different players till we find out what works best.

I'd put Durant on him. They have very similar styles, but Dirk does like to go to the post

Ibaka, Collison, and Durant.

I would not be suprised to see more small ball with Durant @ the PF and a mixture od Harden, Westbrook and Thabo or Cook. (I would not be suprised to see Nate Robinson get some clock work.)

Rodrigue Beaubois could possibally see some minutes with him Kidd, Barea, DeShawn, Terry, and Brewer. That is 6 guards who can see alot of playing time, with probally alot of three guard sets.

Question: who does Durant guard if the Mavs have Kidd, Barea, Terry, Dirk, and Chandler out on the floor. You would probally rather him on Dirk over Terry.

Really, the key is less guarding Dirk and more avoiding overguarding Dirk.

Dirk is a great, great scorer. But you have to leave him at that and not also allow him to create offense for his entire team just by standing there.

Switch Durant and Ibaka/Collison on him, and let him get his. Neutralize everyone else.

Terry or Dirk? Depends on whether we're going smallball or not actually.

If its the Thunder starting 5 This is what I would do

Westbrook-Barea
Thabo-Terry
Durant-Kidd
Ibaka-Dirk
Perkins-Chandler

The decade-long conundrum with putting a smaller defender on Dirk (which is not as effective bordering on useless these days) is that whoever that player is suppose to be guarding ends up on Dirk's man — Ibaka on Peja, basically. Should be interesting if Brooks would allow himself to be bullied into going small with Ibaka and Durant or just stick with the game plan.
