Atl/Phx trade; works in trade checker

Post#1 » by Leolovinliberal » Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:23 pm

This is pretty stellar, it's an "all in" move for the Hawks:

To PHX: Teague, Pachulia, Josh Smith

To Atl: Nash, Gortat

PG: Nash
SG: JJ
SF: Marvin
PF: Horford
C: Gortat

If I was convinced the ASG would spend the $$ to fill out the bench, then it's intriguing. We'd be woeful on D, but a Nash/JJ/Horford trio would be one of the best in the NBA on O. Gortat, Marvin, and Hinrich would all help with the dirty work... but after that, we'd have basically nothing. We would need to land a backup big and a backup wing in FA to actually compete and I'm not sure that the ASG would fork out that $$.

I'm pretty sure PHX would pass though. They've been trying to land a C for years (Shaq, R Lopez, Gortat) and it looks like they've finally got a competent one who's young and on a good contract. Couldn't see them forking him over with Nash in any deal.

IDK about this, I mean Gortat is great and all but Nash is a 1 year rental. (unless u sign and trade him for an extra year or 2) I don't see us giving up Josh and teague for him and Gortat. Teague is our PG for the future, swap Teague for Hinrich, give Nash an extra year on the contract and you have yourself a deal. That way Nash can mentor Teague this year and come off the bench next, if he's not open to that we can always trade him because of his great value. :D

Actually I think Horford and Gortat would be a pretty formidable defensive front court.

Basically this in a nut shell.

Zaza, Teague, and Smith is a ton to give up for Gortat and a one year rental of Nash. After next year we are stuck with no point guard at all (remember Hinrich is expiring).

^^^ I agree. When it was 2 years or a year and a half of Nash then I was interested. A one year rental coming off a lockout squanders the immense marketability of Nash and his style of ball. Nash would likely be moving on to New York once his contract is up or even retiring so the thought of keeping him for a longer stint is unlikely.

OP, your proposal is one-sided if Phoenix actually think they can get this type of value for Lopez: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1121064

Any offer for Gortat would be insane and probably for Steve Nash.

Only trade we should think twice about from Phoenix is Josh Smith for Gortat and there lottery pick.

I was thinking something like Gortat and Warrick for Josh Smith.

I was more thinking about Gortat and Dudley for Josh Smith. Don't like Warrick's contract or fit in our lineup.

Even if it worked under the cap I don't think PHX would trade Gortat for Smith straight up. Smith is a very good player but it's much easier to find a 6'9" pf then it is to find a mobile 7 footer like Gortat. No thanks.
