OT: Help, stuck in PS3 update loop (8002F14E)
Hey guys, found the time to try and get back into my PS3 today. Here are some details of my situation:
Last I messed with it, I (along with my father) found that the blu-ray lens needed to be replaced. I disconnected the player, but was still able to use the internet, downloads, etc. Then a system update came out (didn't use it at the time. This was months ago..) and I chose to update the system, don't really know why.
Now I'm stuck in a loop of the system trying to update, while not being able to reset the system for whatever reason. I don't know everything there is to know about this thing, but I have at least tried to hold down the start button for however long and cannot seem to get it back to factory settings, or really just out of this loop (error 8002F14E) which is my ultimate goal anyway.
Someone help, please.

Can you just unplug it?

It automatically tries to update upon starting, then gets to around 50ish percent and then gets to the error message. So unplugging it isn't seeming to do much.

Hmm, sound like maybe you want to check your NAT type. If it is downloading and then failing to complete, sounds like something is not communicating correctly...Usually PSN service department is helpful if you give them the code you are getting.
Try downloading the update from teh PSN website and saving it to a flash drive and then uploading it that way

I pretty sure I've got NAT 2. I talked to PSN service a few mins ago and they said I'd have to send it in, and that I wouldn't be guaranteed help because I (with my dad) tried to tamper with it myself. They send I could send it but they may send it back.
I have not tried downloading the update from the website yet, but will that even make a difference? All my system seems to be able to do now is go straight to that update mode and error screen. Can't get out of it.

Yea, try to get the update from their website, put it on a SD card or USB drive and plug it in to the PS3 before turning on. Might want to disable the internet too so it doesnt try and connect to the net to get the update.
Maybe try resetting it if you havent...
1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

There must be a way to do a hard reset on the PS3, or maybe you'll just have to complete erase everything from the system.
Take out your hard drive, format it, download the update on to a USB drive and plug both in. follow onscreen instructions
If that doesn't help then maybe you are screwed

I tried resetting, even with the PSN rep. Doesn't work now.
It's attempting to install the update, which means I have downloaded it already in the past.

Re: OT: Help, stuck in PS3 update loop (8002F14E)
Well, thank you for that sir. I had been googling 8002F14E for about an hour but, for some reason, that vid never showed up. Anyway, I've discovered a solution to every problem I have with the system while going through this whole process, so I'll set it aside for now (have to leave for work in a min) and get back to it tomorrow morning. Gonna order a new lens and thinking about upgrading my hard drive.
Thanks guys.

It may be easier just to buy a whole new system at this point.

Re: OT: Help, stuck in PS3 update loop (8002F14E)
I've been lucky (knock on wood)....my original 60GB (fat) PS3 still works. I have not updated it since the dual OS option was removed. Nice to not have to worry about updated bricking the system. I also have two 40GB (fat) versions that I got for cheap on e-bay. But only one of those has been updated...and that one came with a bad optical drive. But I use it for Netflix and streaming....and now Little Big Planet since it was free.
I hope you get your stuff fixed. I've taken all three of my PS3's apart before to swap parts in order to test what was broken. It isn't too bad...but the laser is easy to brick.
