Do you ever go back and watch Lakers failures?

I'm talking about our loss against Dallas last year, our loss against Boston, Phoenix, Detroit, etc. I find that I usually disassociate myself from those games and try not to think about them ever, but think I should look into some of them just for the sake of the history of this team, as well as seeing what went wrong, and also just how good the other team was.

I actually re-watched some segments/highlights from our series with Dallas (initially just to see how good Dirk was in his playoff run). Without getting into too much of that series, I was able to see just how bad our rotations were (i.e. sometimes we would rotate, but many times we didn't). Also, while Gasol was definitely terrible in that series, I noticed that there were more times than I remember where he seemed to defend Nowitzki correctly, but where Dirk just made a tough shot. With no NBA in the near-future, I'm going to try to watch games from the past, and will also look into objectively re-watching and analyzing some of our past failures.

Yes and no. It has more to do w/ the Lakers' performance than the other team's. When they play like lazy MFs and/or in-fighting children, I only get duped into watching it once. If they lose while playing well or if they lose because of injury or if they put up a spirited fight against a superior team, I revisit when possible. Therefore, over the years, the only series I haven't seen anything from were 04 Detroit, 99 SA, and 11 Dallas. I would include 98 Utah in there, but about 5 yrs ago, I discovered the closeout game on an old tape and I trudged through it. I'll have to get back to you on Dallas in 10 yrs because it's recent. I haven't even gotten around to reviewing the 10 Finals yet and we won that.

I collect and watch old games during offseasons and I rarely get any NBA pangs as a result, especially when I also post at NBA sites (all that gives me my fix). I have at least 1 game from nearly every playoff series since 87, including the Threatt years. I've seen the losses since. I did just get around to watching the 91 Bulls series in the last couple of years. I had avoided that one for all that time though I had been watching gms from the earlier 3 series for years. I came away with a better perspective about how it went down. I accept that LA had issues that Chicago wasn't dealing with.

Yes, but I also go back and watch crazy Laker victories (i.e. Game 7 of the NBA Finals in 2010).

You mentioned the past series against the Mavs and we just seemed lethargic. Also, I still can't believe how many 3-pointers the Mavs made in Game 4. Just unbelievable.

I've watched the whole Lakers-Phx 06 playoff series like a million times, remember during that series, I talked so much ish towards all the haters. Not a good idea. But Kobe Bryant was unreal that series, not by his stats but how he controlled everything, it was crazy. And when Kwame was actually doing something positive, having the whole crowd chanting his name was funny.

Yes I've always done that. It really seems worth it when you notice things that could have or should have been corrected then the next season you see those adjustments made. It shows they see what you saw. No pun intended

No. Didn't even see the last 3 games of the series against Dallas and the 2nd half of the 08 finals. I get so upset on everything when the Lakers struggle ( U know me. ) that if I had the "red button" near me. I'd throw the entire world in the air.

Yeah it's normal for me to do that, I have our 3 Peat run on tape, and our recent back to back also. So that's a lot of tape, I re watch the wins and losses.

Often when they are ESPN Classic but now I dont have that channel anymore... sucks.

It depends. If i expected the failure or it's not a huge dissapointment, like 1st or 2nd round loss, I do go back to it. Finals losses are way too painful for me to re live though, I basically block those out of my memory.

Got drunk and rewatched the entire 2008 series a few months ago.

Impression I came away with was Kobe had too much offensive responsibility on the perimeter and needed help with ballhandling and facilitating. Made me think we really need to make a move for another perimeter player who can create his own shot and for others. Pierce, Allen, and Rondo were all out there creating for themselves and others, and i'm watching Kobe do literally ALL of the creating out there.

3 years later...and its still true.

Another thing. Finals MVP Paul Pierce. He made big plays, yes. Some tough late game drives. But overall, he did not play that great. All he had to do was spot up for open 3's from Rondo, Garnett, and Allen's creating, and drive past Vladimir Radmanovic one on one. And he still shot a lower % than Kobe on less PPG with single coverage in our porous defense.. He shot 4-13 in the final game and Boston still won by 40. Kobe takes 13 shots in any game and we lose period.

We won last year, i'm not bitter. But you asked. *shrug*

I think Steve Blake can be the 2nd perimeter creator, even despite the disappointment he was this past year. I feel like the triangle restricted him and eventually he lost confidence because of it. With a new free-flowing offense I think he will flourish a bit. He's shown the talent to be the kind of player we need in the years before he joined the Lakers.

Rewatched Detroit series to admire their defense. Won't rewatch Dallas series because I already know what happened and its not worth reliving.
