Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
Damn the NFL south is a pretty good division. I like the Bucs and think theyre on their way to being a really solid team but that division is gonna be tough on them. I still think they have an outside shot of making the playoffs as the last wildcard team.
I actually agree with just about all of your division standings though. Maybe Chiefs over Oakland? not completely sure

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
Yeah, it was down to Bucs and Giants for the last spot. I think the Giants are getting overlooked a bit. Their pass rush is going to be insane this year with Osi back, and Pierre-Paul having IMO a breakout year. Also drafted Marvin Austin who I like. They are going to suffocate QB's. They have enough weapons on offense to be at minimum solid there, and their best secondary player (Phillips) is healthy.

Not much can shock me in the NFL, but I think 2 teams getting in from the NFC West would do it.

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
I'm very much in line with Luke's calls except a few things:
I'm going to be the guy that goes out on a limb and puts Atlanta #3 in the NFC South. Nawlins will be back, Tampa is good, Turner is already on the RB decline, etc.
As noted above, I'm going with the Bucs as a playoff team. I think they'll take one of the cards from the Falcons.
The other wild card is a wild card. I think Chicago, New York, Detroit, Dallas, and Atlanta will fight for it.

Last spot was between Cards/Bucs but I just think the teams in the south are going to beat up on each other while the Cards/Rams get 4 games against the Niners and Seahawks who will both suck imo.

I personally think Kolb is going to get killed in Phoenix, and they're going to be screwed again with this year's installment of the **** QBs to ever NFL. Gutsy call by you, though.

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
I'm not quite sold on the Bucs as a playoff team yet. Really, really easy schedule last year and were +23 at 10-6. Falcons were +126 at 13-3 and I think made arguably the two biggest acquisitions between the teams in Jones and Edwards. Bucs had a really nice draft, but they are still pretty green across the board, IMO.

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
I realize Tampa had almost the same opponents, but that Falcons +/- (which is something I'm normally very into) was almost all generated by beating hapless Arizona and Carolina twice.
Their 3 losses were all honorable and they beat the Packers, but the ball bounced their way a lot. That's what has to happen for them, because even with Julio Jones I just don't see them as THAT explosive of an offense.
I don't know. They're good, but I just don't like them very much.

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
The Bucs beat nobody last year.
3 point win vs 5-11 Browns
13 point win @ 2-14 Panthers
25 point loss vs 12-4 Steelers
3 point win @ 4-12 Bengals
25 point loss vs 11-5 Saints
1 point win vs 7-9 Rams
3 point win @ 5-11 Cardinals
6 point loss @ 13-3 Falcons
15 point win vs 2-14 Panthers
21 point win @ 6-10 49ers
7 point loss @ 12-4 Ravens
4 point loss vs 13-3 Falcons
1 point win @ 6-10 Redskins
3 point loss vs 6-10 Lions
23 point win vs 8-8 Seahawks
10 point win @ 11-5 Saints
The best team they beat was either the Seahawks or a Saints team in week 17 that didn't give a ****.
They won 10 games by beating teams that averaged 10 losses by an average of 9 points.

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
Trading up for Julio Jones was one of the dumbest moves this offseason. Yeah, sure, it is a move to improve their offense but they needed to be improving their defense, which gave up 48 points in the playoffs. Still don't get that move at all.

Re: 2011 NFL Predictions Thread
The Jones trade was definitely overpaying, but it will help them this year in possibly a big way, IMO.
Falcons were 5th in D last year (18.0 PPG allowed). Their problem overall as a unit was getting to the QB (20th in sacks), and it killed them against us. They are hoping Edwards can help that, but they are far from a poor D. The Packers are a mismatch against any defense in the NFL in a dome though.
Tampa was pretty poor across the board on D, 30th in sacks, 31st in YPC allowed, 24th in PPG allowed.

I honestly go back and fourth with that Atlanta trade. Someone at the time said, "Is there even a WR in the NFL right now that you'd give up two firsts, a second and two fourths?" Answer has to be no, right?
But the Falcons will probably be a top three NFC team for the next couple seasons and pick at the back end of round one. If Jones ends up being a huge impact WR, someone like Andre Johnson, they probably won't care that they gave up that many picks.

I've been talking to a friend a lot about putting in some futures bets for football this year. We did it for baseball and are doing alright.
Anyways, looking at the lines, EVERYONE is cold on the Bears. Holy ****, everyone is pounding under 8.5 wins and they are -200 to miss the playoffs.
