The Woj speaks: Lakers/Adelman

Post#1 » by Slava » Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:04 pm

Rick Adelman is the new head coach of the Timberwolves, but it is not the job he preferred.

According to a report, Adelman badly wanted to coach the Lakers and would have been hired by Mitch Kupchak if not the need to defer to the desire for Mike Brown held by Jim Buss.

A little OT for this forum but a little more on Adelman - Kahn chemistry:

After Rick Adelman coached his final game with the Houston Rockets in April, Minnesota Timberwolves general manager David Kahn found the coach in the corridors of the Target Center. It wouldn’t be long until Adelman would be searching for a job, and Kahn a coach. Let’s talk this summer, Kahn was heard to tell him. This was a conversation that Adelman preferred to never have again in his life, but circumstances change. And money matters.

Privately, Adelman didn’t disguise his disdain for Kahn. They go back to Adelman’s glory days coaching the Portland Trail Blazers in the late 1980s and 1990s, when Kahn was covering the NBA beat as a sportswriter for the Oregonian. The idea that a bad sportswriter had turned into a brutal NBA executive troubled him, sources said. He couldn’t stand him then, and had no intention of resurrecting a working relationship with the man.

If Mike Brown can get our guys to play with heart and determination then it will take away from the potential sting of not hiring Adelman.

Also, pretty sure Khan is a douche.

Article should have come with a massive grain of salt for everyone to take before reading it.

I thought Adelman was a painfully obvious choice, but Jim Buss is now calling the shots and the Lakers will sink or swim with his decisions.

If he messes up, the Clippers will be passing us up, pretty quick in the standings...

I don't think I've read an article from Woj since the playoffs that didn't blame Jim Buss for something or other... It's just about rhetorical at this point... He needs to find another topic.

well, "blame" isn't really the right word for this. while i would have gone with adelman at the start of the offseason, its not like he's somehow more qualified than mike brown. both have been great regular season coaches who haven't finished the job in the playoffs. neither was an obvious choice over the other.

I actually wanted to start a new thread, but will say it here: The fact that Minnesota was the BEST job that Adelman was able to get has to indicate something. I mean, Golden State even picked Mark Jackson over him...MARK JACKSON. I doubt Adelman would prefer freezing Minnesota over San Francisco, besides the fact that GS is a better team, in my opinion.

I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I think it's telling that the guy ended up where he did, and I think that there's people who know more than us about him.

Yep, that's my point... Woj is creating 'blame' for things that don't even make sense... His agenda is showing. That used to be fatal to a journalist...

If they didn't just get the best pick in the draft and Ricky Rubio or had Kevin Love who grew up with Adelman...then I'd say you're right.

Sure Minny is going to be in the tank again next year...but who the hell thinks the Warriors ever have a shot at being good? Their PG and Center are both and will always will be 50 pounds too small. Their best player will never be two-way and is....to small. They will never compete. Those guys can't play D simply because they are a team of mismatches pretty much top to bottom.

I'd take Kevin Love, whatever disappointment Rubio may turn into, and Williams over that. At least they have some potential to develop. Teach the game the right way.

Good for the T-Wolves........they've regurgitated another used up retread coach. Of course Adelman wanted the Laker job who the hell wouldn't. We didn't need him as coach, we needed a defensive minded coach who can teach defensive principles. I've said it before and I'll say it again.......offense wasn't our problem, we were in the top 10 in the league.

Adelman has a great regular season rep, but has failed in the post season more. Glad we have Brown and others here just have to realize he was the man for the job and not loser Adelman.

Absolutely and Mike Brown has quite the winning pedigree too.

When you coach in the era of Phil Jackson, Jordan, Kobe, Duncan and Shaq, 90% chance is that you will not win anything.

+1000000000000000000000. we all complained about our defense, yet when the team goes out and get's a defensive minded coach we still complain. also like someone else said the fact that the best job adelman could get is minny is telling.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

Mike Brown is a better coach..On top of that we wouldn't have any of our assistant coaches like Messina if Adelman was on our bench..

I honestly don't consider Woj a journalist as much as I do an over qualified blogger. All of his pieces seem slanted with bias against someone.

I agree... And I don't really think there are too many true Journalists out there anymore.

The lines have been blurred on both sides as 'Journalists' embrace the pulp style of TMZ... Or rather, as TMZ continues to be profitable while other more traditional media continues to lag.

It's frustrating... The alternatives to the opinionated reports are slowly disappearing to the point where we all find ourselves having to disseminate information from both ends of the pendulum swing in order to glean some semblance of the truth.

So no... Woj isn't a journalist... He's 'just' a Blogger... And it honestly freaks me out when people start listening to Bloggers with the same or more blind respect as some of the more main stream media.

we were all pretty pissed when mike brown was hired.

then mike brown got in a presser and the dude showed he had clear ideas, was articulate in presenting his ideas and then hiring mike brown actually looked like a good idea
