Trade Idea - Tyrus Thomas

Post#1 » by Moooose » Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:44 am

CHA trades: Tyrus Thomas + DeSagana Diop (assuming no amnesty) + 2014 first-rounder (if Diop is included)
IND trades: James Posey + Brandon Rush

Indiana would get a starting PF and a back-up center - a very expensive back-up center though.
Tyrus Thomas' offense still needs work, but i've always liked his hustle. With good playing time and a good, fast-paced system, i think he can be a solid contributor on both ends.
If we are to take Diop, i assume there we can egg the Bobcats to give us a pick to go along with him, a first-rounder. If we can get their 2012 pick, better. But with the upcoming draft class looming with talent, they would likely send a 2013 or a 2014 pick instead.
Diop's contract would end in 2014, just in time to re-sign most of our core guys.

Charlotte would get big cap relief and depth at the wing position in Rush and the expiring Posey.
Thoughts?

Tyrus Thomas' asking price is probably higher. We would be the ones adding the 2014 1st, not them.

Well, the addition of a 2014 first rounder is only if Diop would be included. I mean, we could take Diop's contract provided they send us a future pick.

2012 pick belongs to the bulls, but CHA will probably get it because of the protection. This means future firsts are pretty much out.

I would not add any value on top of the expirings, if I'd even do that. Tyrus is not a steady presence averaging just 10/5 in about 21 mpg, on top of that he only played in 41 games last season. Carl Landry is more effective than that, and we can sign him outright for less.

Oh god. Just keep the cap space and wait if that's the best thing we can get with it.

I mean... wow. Make one or 2 cheap moneyball-style FA signings, and keep the expiring. Trades will be available, no need to jump the gun with this move.
